Wanda Sykes Attacks White People and Rush Limbaugh
Wanda Sykes, who recently revealed she is a lesbian, spoke at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, where President Obama and his wife Michelle were seated next to the podium Sykes spoke from.
Sykes said of Rush Limbaugh that she thought he was the twentieth 9-11 high jacker, but she thought he was so strung out on Oxycontin that he missed his flight. Sykes even said she wishes Limbaugh’s kidneys would fail, and that he needed his own water board. The audience did not laugh, but instead gave more of a grown to indicate their discomfort with Sykes, but she continued.
Sykes spent her time speaking attacking and criticizing anyone associated with republicans or conservatives, even their non-political wives.
Our reaction to Sykes comments is that she is rude and inappropriate, as well as another angry lesbian who attacks anyone who doesn’t agree with her political positions on gay marriage. We expect inappropriate behavior from people like Sykes. Just because Sykes is a black lesbian doesn’t give her the right to engage in hate speech.
We were offended by Sykes racist remarks against white people. Racism of any kind at an official White House event is inappropriate. Sykes should be ashamed of herself, but we know she isn’t. We used to like Sykes, but after hearing what she really thinks, we realize what an ugly, and angry, person she is inside. What Sykes did was not comedy, is was personal attacks and racism disguised as comedy.
President Obama should denounce Sykes comments, and never invite her to any official function again.

Sykes has every right to express herself and her expression is no less inflamitory then the trash that the RIGHT spews out EACH AND EVERY DAY ON THE RADIO AND TV- I also love the FACT that at the END of the video she gets a STANDING OVATION- so seriously GET A GRIP.
I think Sean Hannity should lighten up. He seems more upset than Rush himself over Wanda’s Sykes’ jokes. You have to understand that comics do say mean things sometimes in the name of humor. Also, I think that everyone is being overly sensitive about the comment about his ‘hoping his kidneys fail.’ She didn’t come out and say that she really wanted him to die, it was just a joke!
Maybe everyone didn’t find it funny but that is just her brand of humor. I’m sure some people think it’s funny when Rush Limbaugh attacks people like Henry Waxman and calls him ‘Nostrilitis”.
Not offensive, Rush is a celeb in the media and he would make no apologies for it and he probably had a good laugh himself! However this was in very poor taste considering it was an official white house luncheon. Funny? Maybe Appropriate? No
Wanda Sykes is a racist, sexist idiot. Limbaugh wants Obama to fail, but America to succeed!
You have GOT to be kidding me! That was hilarious, plain and simple. If you’re offended by that…..I’m not sure what to say. You are truly waaaay too uptight. Learn to relax and laugh.
Some of her jokes came across flat but other than that it was typical humour not too unlike Jay Leno.
So she lambasted Rush Limbaugh, Bush and Cheney…and so did Obama during the campaign. There are no sacred cows when it comes to this kind of humour. If Jaime Fox had given this humour there would have been much more laughter because Sykes can’t hold a candle to him. Nor do I think it unpatriotic to have this humour at this particular function. As for the media, it is them I don’t trust. Oh Yes, I’m a Republican, did not vote for Obama and I’m suspect of his leadership abilities.
Though I am very much a liberal, I’ve never been much of a fan of Wanda Sykes’ humor. It always seemed a bit too mean-spirited. While I’m no fan of Rush Limbaugh, either (he’s far more mean-spirited than Ms. Sykes), I still think she went a bit far.
However, though it has become a cliche to say so, one of the great things about this country is the principal of free speech. She is allowed to spew her jibes in the same way that Limbaugh is allowed to spew his.
You lost all credibility by opening with “who recently revealed she’s a lesbian” — your usage was akin to “who recently sucked the skin off of dead babies”. Hey, free country, freedom of speech, freedom of expression. Rock on with your “non-black-lesbian” selves.

On the contrary. Sykes recently came out of the closet and revealed she is a lesbian. Sykes wants the world to know. By identifying Sykes as a lesbian I let the reader know this fact that Sykes WANTS communicated, so I’m doing her a favor, and it’s important to put Sykes beliefs into context so the reader can better understand Sykes hatred for conservatives and republicans.
We support free speech, but not hate speech, as Sykes engaged in towards white people.
The ’style’ of comedy is offensive. That’s why it’s funny. i thought it was pretty good. when she refers to another ‘white’ guy getting into the whitehouse, i think she means another old stiff- like so many presidents before. i wouldn’t call her a racist, but it does signify hope having a black president instead of a white. Or rather, instead of the other options.
it’s clear that the writers of this site don’t understand comedy – the whole concept of hollywood or celebrity is comedy.

I’ve read the book Comedy Writing Secrets by Helitzer, which helped me understand how comedy is constructed. The offensive comments Sykes made were meant to be offensive, not funny. Comedians frequently claim their offensive comments were comedy, because they know people who are not comedians don’t understand the difference, like yourself.
What is the country coming to wwhen we have trash like this at a White House function and everyone thinks it is just great? Ever see the movie Idiocracy? That is where we are headed and it is frightening.
That’s not hate speech. Wanda was great. Rush is a bloated drug abuser.
