The View Discuss Prosition 8 and Gay Marriage
On The View Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd both agreed that Christian rights prevailed in the vote banning gay marriage. Barbara Walters tried to twist what happened by saying the Supreme Court in California voted to allow gay marriage. What really happened was the PEOPLE of California voted to ban gay marriage, then the Supreme Court in California overturned that law saying it was Unconstitutional, so the PEOPLE put Proposition 8 on the November 4 ballot. Proposition 8 proposed an ammendment to the California state Constitution that would ban gay marriage, making it Constitutional. Proposition 8 passed with an overwhelming majority of the PEOPLE of California voting for the Constitutional Amendment banning gay marriage. The PEOPLE spoke, but those who disagree refuse to accept reality.
Gay groups are now protesting the ban, but that isn’t going to change the Constitution. Gays are approaching this the wrong way. They keep trying to fight heterosexual Christians, but that hasn’t worked. The PEOPLE voted twice, and gays lost both times, so now what. I would suggest, as I have before, that gays try to get law makers to draft a new law that identifies a type of gay marriage that is called something other than marriage, or an expanded civil union law. The gay community have a lot of smart and creative people, so why is it so hard to come up with ideas other than attacking heterosexual Christian rights?

I wouldn’t call fifty-two percent an “overwhelming majority.”
***HG Says***
In U.S. elections some call 52% both an overwhelming majority, and a mandate. No matter how you look at the numbers 52% is the majority.
amen!
Religion and law should be kept seperate. Homosexuals are humans too and they have every right to protest for basic rights everyone has except them. Gosh, they just want to get married! Its not like getting married would cause famine or its going to be the end of the world! If Christians don’t practice homosexuality, then don’t! Don’t try to govern other people and their rights.
