Tatum O’Neal Blames Dog Death for Drug Relapse

Tatum O’Neal admitted she lied when she said she bought drugs to research an acting role. She said:

"I’m still sober!"

"Just when I was about to change that and wreck my life, the cops came and saved me!"

"There’s no excuse for what I did."

"I lost my Scottish terrier, Lena." She got old. She got cancer. She was the fabric of our family. We had to let her go to heaven. My daughter and I had to put her down. It was too horrible for words."

"I couldn’t get out of it. I was going to my psychiatrist. I was doing everything I could do. I have the disease of alcoholism. It’s lifelong. I treat it every day by going to my 12-step program."

"The loss of my dog was too much. It triggered that my mother passed away [from addiction] in ’98. My father [actor Ryan O’Neal] and I are estranged."

Sounds like a lot of excuses. Tatum was arrested for buying crack and cocaine. You’d think she would tell herself to be strong for her three living children after her dog died. It sounds more to me like she used every excuse in the book to justify trying to do drugs again. Tatum can’t be trusted, even around herself. It’s no wonder she lost her three kids once.
