Iron Man Crushes Speed Racer

Speed Racer Bombs

Iron Man continues to crush the competition with domestic receipts totalling $177.1 million, and the international total reaching a whopping $276.1 million.

Speed Racer, which cost $200 million, has been a huge bomb this weekend with opening receipts totalling a dismal $20.2 million. Bombs don’t get much worse than this. Looks like Christina Ricci will need to keep working on her silver screen comeback.

Some of the other studios are claiming that Warner Brothers isn’t fudging the total take for Speed Racer, to make it look like they had a second place finish. If that’s true, then Speed Racer is a complete disaster.

Robert Downey Jr., who played Tony Stark in Iron Man, is already signed to reprise his role in the Iron Man sequel scheduled to be released in April of 2010.

Speed Racer First 7 Minutes Video

Share

Speed Racer has received such bad reviews, it is predicted that it will be a giant expensive flop. I could see that just from the previews. Nothing I saw hooked me in.

The film is supposed to be for kids, but I’ve heard early reviews from those that saw it already who said, the movie story line that it is even difficult for adults to follow, but the special effects are really great.

To try to get some interest going in the movie a clip of the first 7 full minutes from the movie has been released in the video above. If the clip doesn’t keep your interest, neither will the overly long movie. If you do go see it, you’ll be relieved to take a bathroom break during this movie.

Speed Racer Movie Trailers

Coming in May of 2008 is the Wachowski Brothers’ (”The Matrix” trilogy) live-action adaptation of the very popular Japanese comic called Speed Racer. A lot of Hollywood stars signed on for this movie, as it may just be a blockbuster. Playing Taejo Togokhan is Korean pop star, and actor, Rain. This movie would have been better with many more Asian actors, especially since it is originated from Asia, but that’s Hollywood.
