If the reports are true, the managements were unfair. Not informing her ahead of time was adding insult to injury. (Actually, I am not a Paula fan). Actually, her leaving would be a win-win for everybody. She could go on exploring new horizons. fans tired of her always neutral comments would be spared, the new female judge could show more of her mettle (if any exists to begin with), and the fans would have something new to experience (minus one judge is still new).
