Remy Ma Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison

Remy Ma, aka Remy Smith, (26) was sentenced today by a New York court to 8 years in prison for assault, weapon possession, and attempted coercion. Remy shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph outside a Manhattan nightclub, and was arrested originally for attempted murder in July of 2007 Makeda is currently suing Remy for $20 million for shooting her. Remy claimed the shooting was an accident after the two got into an altercation over $3,000 Remy said Makeda stole from her purse. The jury didn’t buy Remy’s story, but still showed mercy since Remy faced 25 years in prison.

Remy and fellow rapper Papoose were set to get married in a weekend wedding at the Rikers Island jail, bu correction officials had to call the wedding off after Papoose showed up with a handcuff key.

Remy Ma’s lawyer, Ivan Fisher, denies the key could be used to unlock handcuffs. Papoose isn’t charged. Fisher says the two idiots still plan to wed.

Finally a rapper has to take responsibility for their actions. If you do the crime, you have to do the time. Foxy Brown should take a close look at Remy, then look in the mirror, and be thankful she only had to do 8 months in jail, rather than 8 years in prison.

remy Rapper Remy Ma Arrested in NYC Shooting

Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma was arrested Saturday on charges of attempted murder in a shooting outside a trendy Manhattan nightspot, police said.

The 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Remy Smith, had been sought for questioning in the shooting of a 23-year-old woman early Saturday after a verbal dispute near a bar in the Meatpacking District. She reported to police Saturday evening and was also arrested on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

A 911 call reporting gunfire led police to a woman with a gunshot wound. Three blocks away, officers discovered a luxury SUV owned by Remy Ma; the vehicle had been involved in a single-car crash and abandoned, police said.

The victim, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, was in stable condition at a hospital.

Sasha Tcherekoff, owner of the Pizza Bar, said a review of security videotape taken inside his nightspot showed the rapper and her friends having a good time before they exited.

"The police have indicated to us that the altercation happened a block away," the owner said. "The security tapes determined there was no physical or verbal altercation while they were in the Pizza Bar."

After becoming successful it seems that most rappers refuse to leave the life of a thug behind. Becoming rich just makes some people even more dangerous. The jury is still out on what happened here for sure, but one person has been shot and all the evidence so far points to Remy. No word yet on what the victim is saying, but it appears she has pointed the finger at Remy which appears to be why she was arrested.
