Remy Ma Sentenced to 8 Years in Prison

Remy Ma, aka Remy Smith, (26) was sentenced today by a New York court to 8 years in prison for assault, weapon possession, and attempted coercion. Remy shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph outside a Manhattan nightclub, and was arrested originally for attempted murder in July of 2007 Makeda is currently suing Remy for $20 million for shooting her. Remy claimed the shooting was an accident after the two got into an altercation over $3,000 Remy said Makeda stole from her purse. The jury didn’t buy Remy’s story, but still showed mercy since Remy faced 25 years in prison.

Remy and fellow rapper Papoose were set to get married in a weekend wedding at the Rikers Island jail, bu correction officials had to call the wedding off after Papoose showed up with a handcuff key.

Remy Ma’s lawyer, Ivan Fisher, denies the key could be used to unlock handcuffs. Papoose isn’t charged. Fisher says the two idiots still plan to wed.

Finally a rapper has to take responsibility for their actions. If you do the crime, you have to do the time. Foxy Brown should take a close look at Remy, then look in the mirror, and be thankful she only had to do 8 months in jail, rather than 8 years in prison.

remy Remy Ma is Going to Jail

The verdict is in for the Remy Ma trial. The violent black female rapper has been convicted on four major charges, two counts of first-degree assault, attempted coercion, and criminal possession of a weapon.

The charges stem from a 2007 incident in which Remy shot a friend of hers after a fight over $3,000 in cash stolen from Remy’s purse. The defense tried to make the shooting an accident, but the jury wasn’t buying the excuses, especially with Remy’s gun being loaded with hollow point bullets.

The victim’s friends and family taunted Remy when the verdicts were read. As nice as it is to hear another violent rapper is going to jail, it is still disrespectful and childish for the family and friends to taunt Remy in court. It’s not that she doesn’t deserve it, but it just shows the family and friends have the same low intelligence that landed Remy in jail, so they’ll probably be next.

Remy could face up from five to 25 years in prison at sentencing.

remy-ma-lawsuit Remy Ma Sued For $80 Million by Alleged Shooting Victim

Rapper Remy Ma has been slapped with an $80 million civil suit, filed January 9, by a former friend. Makeda Barnes-Joseph alleges in the lawsuit that Remy shot her twice in the abdomen on July 14, for allegedly stealing $2,000.

Universal Music Group and Sure Shot Recordings are are also named in the suit for helping cultivate Remy’s image.

Joseph’s attorney Lauren P. Raysor issued a statement to the Voice, which said:

“Only by pursuing those who we believe are legally responsible for this vicious and callous act of violence, can we hope to put an end to this senseless cycle of violence that is glorified by Hip-Hop marketing.”

The wounds Joseph sustained from the shooting have resulted in three surgeries and frequent hospital visits.

Remy Ma’s lawyer said that the suit shows Joseph’s true motivation. Remy’s attorney Ivan Fischer told reporter Chloé A. Hilliard:

“It strikes me that this is part of a publicity stunt. The claims she makes are inaccurate. She reaches into every conceivable deep pocket…It’s grossly irresponsible.”

This suit is an upgrade from a similar suit levied last month in the sum of $20 million. How can being shot in the stomach twice, and wanting justice, be a publicity stunt?

Remy Ma has proclaimed in innocence in the shooting case. I’ll bet Makeda never allegedly steals money from a friend again.

Remy Ma, and her record label, were sued for $20 million yesterday by a woman who was allegedly shot in New York by Ma. The suit claims that the label encouraged Ma to be a bad girl to promote the Remy Ma brand. Being a bad girl is a double edged sword. If you live by the sword you die by the sword.

remy Rapper Remy Ma Arrested in NYC Shooting

Grammy-nominated rapper Remy Ma was arrested Saturday on charges of attempted murder in a shooting outside a trendy Manhattan nightspot, police said.

The 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Remy Smith, had been sought for questioning in the shooting of a 23-year-old woman early Saturday after a verbal dispute near a bar in the Meatpacking District. She reported to police Saturday evening and was also arrested on charges of assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

A 911 call reporting gunfire led police to a woman with a gunshot wound. Three blocks away, officers discovered a luxury SUV owned by Remy Ma; the vehicle had been involved in a single-car crash and abandoned, police said.

The victim, Makeda Barnes-Joseph, was in stable condition at a hospital.

Sasha Tcherekoff, owner of the Pizza Bar, said a review of security videotape taken inside his nightspot showed the rapper and her friends having a good time before they exited.

"The police have indicated to us that the altercation happened a block away," the owner said. "The security tapes determined there was no physical or verbal altercation while they were in the Pizza Bar."

After becoming successful it seems that most rappers refuse to leave the life of a thug behind. Becoming rich just makes some people even more dangerous. The jury is still out on what happened here for sure, but one person has been shot and all the evidence so far points to Remy. No word yet on what the victim is saying, but it appears she has pointed the finger at Remy which appears to be why she was arrested.
