Prince Epilepsy Cured by an Angel

Prince appeared on PBS Monday where he told Tavis Smiley his childhood epilepsy was cured by an angel. Prince said:

“I’ve never spoken about this before, but I was born epileptic. I used to have seizures when I was young.”

“My mother told me one day I walked into her and said mom I’m not going to be sick anymore, and she said ‘why?’ and I said; ‘an angel told me so.’”

Prince says he doesn’t remember telling his mother an angel cured him, but that’s what she said Prince said when he was a boy.

If an angel cured Prince of his epilepsy, who did he make a deal with to get rich and famous?

Prince Gives Guy Guitar on Tonight Show

Prince performed on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. After he finished, Prince walked out to the crowd, and gave a guy in the front row his guitar.

The guy looked shocked. He held it up for the crowd to see, then a staff member came along and took the guitar away.

It would have been cooler if the guy got to keep the guitar. Prince is such a tease.

Radiohead Asks Prince to Unblock Creep Video

Radiohead has asked Prince to unblock a video on YouTube of him playing their song Creep, which was shot by fans when he played at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California, on April 26.

Prince has angered fans, and now fellow music artists with his policing of videos using his image or songs. In this case, he doesn’t own the copyright to the song, but he still blocked it. Click the link below to read the whole article.

After word spread that Prince covered Radiohead’s "Creep" at Coachella, the tens of thousands who couldn’t be there ran to YouTube for a peek. Everyone was quickly denied — even Radiohead.

All videos of Prince’s unique rendition of Radiohead’s early hit were quickly taken down, leaving only a message that his label, NPG Records, had removed the clips, claiming a copyright violation. But the posted videos were shot by fans and, obviously, the song isn’t Prince’s.

In a recent interview, Thom Yorke said he heard about Prince’s performance from a text message and thought it was "hilarious." Yorke laughed when his bandmate, guitarist Ed O’Brien, said the blocking had prevented him from seeing Prince’s version of their song.

"Really? He’s blocked it?" asked Yorke, who figured it was their song to block or not. "Surely we should block it. Hang on a moment."

Yorke added: "Well, tell him to unblock it. It’s our … song."

YouTube prohibits the posting of copyrighted material. If the site receives a complaint from a copyright owner, it will in most cases remove the video(s). Whether the same could be done for a company not holding a copyright is less clear, but Yorke’s argument would seem to bear some credence according to YouTube’s policies. YouTube, which is owned by Google, declined to comment.

Prince also did not immediately respond to a request for comment Thursday.

The dispute was an interesting twist in debates over digital ownership, held between two major acts with differing views on music and the Internet. Radiohead famously released their most recent album, "In Rainbows," as a digital download with optional pricing. They also have a channel on YouTube.

When Prince performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, Calif., on April 26, he prohibited the standard arrangement of allowing photographers to shoot near the stage during the first three songs of his set. Instead, he had a camera crew filming his performance.

Prince, who founded NPG Records in 1993, has been innovative when it comes to music distribution, too. He released his 1997 album, "Crystal Ball," on the Internet and in 2006 was awarded a lifetime achievement award by the Webbys. In 2007, he gave away copies of his disc "Planet Earth" in a British Sunday newspaper.

But the Purple One has also shut down his official Web site and in September of last year said he would sue YouTube and eBay for not filtering unauthorized content.

Prince fans have organized to urge him to relent in his legal fights to control images and photographs of himself. As of Thursday, the most popular YouTube clip about Prince playing "Creep" is an expletive-laden rant from Sam Conti Jr., who describes himself as a "former Prince fan."

According to a source the promoters were having a tough time selling enough tickets, so they added Prince, but it cost them a lot. Prince is worth every penny, about 4 million dollars worth of pennies to be exact.

Prince to Get Hip Surgery

There is a rumor that Prince will get a secret hip replacement. The surgery will involve removing the ball and socket of Prince’s damaged hip and replacing it with a titanium joint. A source told Britain’s News of the World newspaper:

"For months Prince, who always puts on the most energetic shows, has been complaining of pain every time he moves. He is totally crushed because he knows he will never be the same again."

I hear you can do cool things with new hips, like to the splits, leap over cars, and the ever popular putting your ankles behind your ears. Oh wait, that’s bionic hips. Prince is right, he’ll never be the same again.

Prince to Fans – PFUnk You

Prince and his record label have sent cease and desist letters to at least three unauthorized fans sites using his copyrighted images, and other materials. There has been a backlash as a result, especially over a video of a baby dancing on YouTube with a Prince song playing in the background, which Prince demanded be removed. Many Prince fans feel they are under attack by the purple one. Now, Prince has taken out his frustrations musically and recorded a new diss track for the false fans and hangers on. The Funk jam, dubbed "PFUnk," is posted at Princefamsunited. Prince sings:

"The only reason you say my name is to get your fifteen seconds of fame, nobody’s even sure what you do,â€ Prince sings. "I don’t care what people may say, I ain’t gonna let it ruin my day.â€ Toward the end, Prince tells his fans, â€œI love all y’all, don’t you ever mess with me no more."

Fans want more Prince even at unauthorized sites, not less. Prince is reported to surf the Internet personally looking for sites, and videos he hasn’t authorized. You’d think with his money he’d just let it go. Prince already has it all, does he really need the crumbs that help the little guy too? Click here to listen to PFUnk.

Prince vs the Dancing Baby

An 18 month-old baby dances in the video to Prince’s "Let’s Go Crazy," which causes Prince and his record company to go crazy. You can barely hear the music playing in the background, and it’s only part of the 29 second clip. Copyright laws need to be revised. TMZ reports:

Stephanie Lenz posted a 29-second video clip of her son dancing to the Prince track back in February, according to ABC News. In June, she received an email from YouTube saying that her video had been removed at the request of Universal Music Publishing Group, and that she could have her YouTube account canceled in the event of any future copyright infringements.

In response to Universal’s "takedown notice," Lenz filed a "counter-notice" and her video was restored six weeks later. For its part, YouTube told ABC that they are bound by provisions in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to honor all takedown and counter-notices.

In a statement released to ABC, Universal said:

"Prince believes it is wrong for YouTube, or any user-generated site, to appropriate his music without his consent … It’s simply a matter of principle."

A matter of principle is a convenient way to say, “it may not be right, but we have an excuse, an unfair law is on our side.” Another nice way to say it is, “use our copyrighted material and we’ll rip your balls off.”

Maybe Jessica Simpson and Dane Cook Really Are Dating Again

We kinda believed the many Jessica Simpson-is-dating-X-celeb stories were publicity stunts cooked up by Papa Joe to divert attention from her soon-to-be box-office bomb.

There were inklings that the romance rumors rearing up could be a reaction to the Nick Lachey, Vanessa Minnillo soft-core snaps that were making headlines.

But…now there is a picture. Sure, it’s not ironclad proof of the reported canoodling at the Prince show, but it’s interesting. More interesting than Dane Cook’s "comedy" and definitely more interesting than Jess’s "acting" or even her attempts at "singing."

Prince Plays Until Police Shut Him Down

This is why Prince is a legend and beloved by many. He is a real musician, a real rock star. No 14-minute wham-bam-thank-you-ma’am sets for him.

Prince thrilled his hometown fans with three shows over 12 hours, only stopping when police shut him down early Sunday.

The Minneapolis native first performed Saturday at a department store to promote his new cologne, cramming nine songs into a 45-minute set. He then played that night at the Target Center arena.

He capped the night with a return to First Avenue, the club he made famous in the movie "Purple Rain." "Minneapolis, I am home," the Purple One declared after the first song at the department store.

That’s three shows in one day; one a full concert at an arena. This is why his intimate VIP shows in LA are sold out at $1,500+ a ticket and attended by the likes of Jessica Simpson. He’s a pro, an entertainer.
