First police said Ingrid Marie Rivera, who is Miss Puerto Rico Universe, was the victim of a pepper spray attack, then they said she lied about it to win, now they say she’s a victim again, only this time they have a suspect. People reports:

The Miss Puerto Rico pepper-spray case took yet another drastic turn Wednesday with police now saying the beauty queen did in fact have her gown sprayed as she has claimed.

And there’s even a suspect – a pageant volunteer.

"Miss Puerto Rico Universe was speaking the truth," said San Juan police spokesman Lt. Eddie Hernandez, according to the Associated Press. "She was being sincere about the allegations."

After being crowned at the Nov. 24 pageant, Ingrid Marie Rivera alleged that someone, perhaps a rival contestant, had pepper-sprayed her black gown and bathing suit. She said she had applied ice bags to her face and body, in between turns onstage, to be able to continue with the competition.

Her claims were met with some skepticism in the ensuing days and weeks, and police announced earlier this month that an initial investigation found no traces of the spray.

But after conducting numerous interviews, police now say they believe a perpetrator did in fact spray the dress. The suspect is a volunteer, rather than a fellow contestant. Police haven’t identified the suspect or the motive, and the DA has not decided whether to file charges.

Rivera will next compete in the Miss Universe pageant in Vietnam next July.

What kind of education are police investigators getting these days. They can’t seem to solve any case easily, sometimes blame the victim, and take years and years to solve murder cases most times. At this point how can anyone really be sure the new suspect is really guilty without a full confession?

Ingrid Marie Rivera May Have Lied About Pepper Spray

  Share

Ingrid Marie Rivera was on The Today Show denying she lied about the pepper spray, however, on Friday, the Caribbean island’s Forensic Sciences Institute said the makeup brush and gown, delivered to police four days after the pageant, contained no traces of capsicum, pepper spray’s active ingredient.

"I guess she has a lot of explaining to do," police spokesman Stephen Alvarez said on Saturday.

Rivera said she didn’t report the pepper spray to police, but only to pageant officials because she didn’t think she had that option. Others say Ingrid is a liar, and even point out that Ingrid was a judge for Miss Universe last year, and this year she was a contestant, which is other girls perceived as unfair.

Police spokesman Stephen Alvarez went on to say that he did not want his department used for purposes of publicity, Police Superintendent Pedro Toledo said he would investigate whether anyone provided false information to his detectives, which would be a felony.

Despite facing felony charges for lying to police Rivera did win Miss Puerto Rico Universe, and says she looks forward to competing in the Miss Universe pageant in Vietnam coming up.

miss puerto rico pepper spray 1 Ingrid Marie Rivera False Pepper Spray Claim Investigation

Ingrid Marie Rivera is now under investigation for falsely claiming her clothes were covered with pepper spray by someone. People reports:

Police are now said to be investigating just how Ingrid Marie Rivera was able to stop crying between camera appearances at Saturday’s pageant, if indeed her gown and makeup had been sabotaged with the spray, as she asserts, NBC News reports.

The reported skepticism about Rivera prompted Today show host Meredith Vieira to inquire on Tuesday’s broadcast if, possibly, crime-scene investigators believe the pepper-spray claim may have been imaginary.

"They’re saying, they think she made it up?" Vieira asked reporter Kerry Sanders, who replied: "They’re looking into it. They’re curious."

Rivera is due to be interviewed on Wednesday’s Today show, where, on Tuesday, co-anchor Matt Lauer said he intended to get to the bottom of the mystery.

Yesterday reports said that police had tested Rivera’s clothes which confirmed the pepper spray on them. In addition, a bomb threat had been called in which postponed the Miss Universe pageant for a day, and Rivera also claimed someone stole her bag containing her gowns, makeup and credit cards. Was it all a lie?

miss puerto rico pepper spray 2 Ingrid Marie Rivera Wins Miss Universe Despite Pepper Spray

Ingrid Marie Rivera won the 2008 Miss Universe pageant despite someone trying to sabotage her. Pageant organizers said they hope to catch and expose whoever was responsible for dousing Rivera’s evening gowns with pepper spray and spiking her makeup, causing her to break out in hives. Someone also stole Rivera’s bag containing her gowns, makeup and credit cards. Police have opened have opened an investigation as well.

Pageant spokesman Harold Rosario said, "We thought at first it was an allergic reaction, or maybe nerves, but the second time, we knew it couldn’t have been a coincidence."

Despite having to strip off her clothes and apply ice bags to her face and body, which swelled and broke out in hives twice, Rivera was able to remain composed in front of judges and the cameras during the competition. Rivera said, "At one point I said, ’Am I a masochist?’ I said, ’I am with God and this is my goal, regardless of the results.’"

Someone even called in a bomb threat which forced pageant officials to postpone the last day of competition on Thursday, said Magali Febles, director of the Miss Puerto Rico Universe pageant. No explosives were found.

Despite everything Rivera won. You could say Rivera is the bomb.
