Matilda Rose will inherit the $20 million estate of Heath Ledger, after his family decided to give it to her because it was the right thing to do. Heath’s life insurance company, ReliaStar Life Insurance Company, however, said they believe Heath’s death may have been suicide, so they won’t pay out the death benefit of $10 million. The company said they will perform their own investigation, which will include talking to Mary-Kate Olsen. Police already rule Heath’s death accidental, but they aren’t always right.

ReliaStar’s attorneys are going to take the depositions of MKO, as well as the masseuse who discovered him dead. They’ll also be interviewing his doctors, agents, co-stars on films, psychologists, and many others.

Matilda’s lawyers say ReliaStar is violating California law which does not allow insurance companies to reexamine applications after the death of the policyholder. In other words, the insurance company would have had to do their due diligence when Heath applied for the insurance, and not now that he has paid his premiums and died.

Matilda’s lawyers say ReliaStar are acting "maliciously, fraudulently and/or oppressively."

The life insurance policy was written June of 2007, only six months before Heath died.

Heath Ledger’s Dad says Michelle and Matilda Will Be Taken Care Of

Heath Ledger’s family moved quickly to speak out Saturday after details of the late actor’s will were released, showing he had not updated it since his relationship with Michelle Williams and the 2005 birth of their daughter Matilda Rose.

"Matilda is our absolute priority and Michelle is an integral part of our family," Heath’s father Kim Ledger says in a statement. "They will be taken care of and that’s how Heath would want it to be."

Ledger’s rep quickly squashed any speculation that Williams and 2-year-old Matilda would not be provided for. "The story is getting taken out of context and media is speculating that this means Matilda and Michelle will not be taken care of. I want to make it very clear nothing could be farther from the truth."

Earlier today I said that Heath’s family would definitely take care of Matilda, but I am surprised they extended that kindness to Michelle too. Heath’s family is really amazing.

Heath Ledger Leaves Nothing to Michelle Williams

heath ledger and michelle williams Heath Ledger Leaves Nothing to Michelle Williams

Back in 2003, Heath Ledger made out a will before he met Michelle Williams. The will leaves all of Heath’s estate to his parents and his three sisters. Most of the details of the will have been sealed by the court at the request of Heath’s attorney.

Although it seems unfair for Michelle Williams and Matilda, Heath’s family will no doubt setup a trust fund, or provide some means of support for Matilda throughout her life. Michelle herself, who is already wealthy, will have no problem providing for Matilda even without Heath’s money, so no worries.

I miss Heath’s talent. I still don’t want to believe he’s gone.

Michelle Williams and daughter Matilda Rose started their trip from Stockholm to New York this morning, following the death of Heath Ledger.

Michelle and Matilda went to nearby Gothenberg to board a flight to New York. Michelle’s mother and sister are currently in Brooklyn and were joined there by Matilda’s godmother, Busy Philipps.

Jake Gyllenhaal (27) was named Matilda’s godfather before Heath’s death, which Jake described as "an amazing honor."
