Sweet Sasha and Marvelous Malia Beanie Babies have become collectors items. Although the company claims the dolls were not name after the Obama daughters, they have announced they will now rename the dolls Marvelous Mariah and Sweet Sydney.

An Obama spokesman said:

"We appreciate the company’s response to this matter."

The free advertising was probably worth more than the profits from the dolls.

Beanie Babies has now started selling their new Sweet Sasha and Marvelous Malia dolls. A spokesman said the dolls were inappropriate, and the Obama daughters should be given their privacy. A company rep said:

"They are beautiful names" not because of any resemblance to President Obama’s daughters.

“There’s nothing on the dolls that refers to the Obama girls. It would not be fair to say they are exact replications of these girls. They are not.”

Sweet Sasha and Marvelous Malia retail for $9.99 on the company website.
