Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick pleaded guilty to lying under oath. He will resign as Mayor, serve 120 days in jail, repay $1 million in restitution, and surrender his law license. Kilpatrick angrily challenged those coming after him as trying to bring him down for political reasons, but he finally admitted his guilt. His own arrogance brought him down. Kwame Kilpatrick (37), the mayor of Detroit, and Christine Beatty, his chief of staff, have been caught lying in a whistleblower’s trial about having a romantic relationship, after text messages they sent to each other were revealed. Wayne County Prosecutor, Kym Worthy, also charged Kilpatrick with obstruction of justice and misconduct in office.

Worthy has said she and her staff have pored over more than 40,000 pages of documents since January, when the Detroit Free Press published excerpts of sexually explicit text messages sent to Beatty’s city-issued pager in 2002 and 2003.

Perjury is a felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. For Kilpatrick, a conviction also would mean his immediate expulsion from office. The Detroit City Charter calls for any elected official convicted of a felony while in office to be removed.

Kilpatrick has said he would not resign and last week said he expects to be vindicated when all aspects of the scandal are made public.

The mayor was expected to hold a news conference at noon. Worthy said she expected the mayor and Beatty to turn themselves in by 7 a.m. Tuesday.

Kilpatrick and Beatty’s testimony came in a lawsuit filed by two police officers who alleged they were fired for investigating claims that the mayor used his security unit to cover up extramarital affairs. Kilpatrick and Beatty both denied having an affair, but text messages have proven that was a lie.

Kilpatrick is married with three children. Beatty was married at the time and has two children.

Kwame Kilpatrick, aka the Hip Hop Mayor, also likes to use the word Nigger, and used it more than 7 times during an official State of the City speech earlier in March. He used the word Nigger to try to get the sympathy of the black community behind him during a scandal, that has not ended with his being caught lying, and officially charged. The mayor tried to make it look like he was being pursued because he was black, but he was charged by a black woman prosecutor woman. Once again a black man says he’s a victim because he is black, even though he is the powerful mayor of one of the largest cities in America. Pathetic. It’s time to stop listening the this racist B.S., and start treating everyone equally. Thanks to prosecutor Kym Worthy justice will be done in an objective manner.
