Nothing kills a good dinner date like getting unexpectedly stuck with the check. On August 4, during a romantic meal at L.A.’s chic Italian eatery Pace, Kirsten Dunst, 24, and a British mystery man seemed to hit it off, a witness said.

“She was flirty and laughing,” says the witness. “They shared chocolate cake and red wine for dessert.” But when the bill came, “he said something about ‘no money’ and then she paid,” says the source. “She put her credit card down. It was awkward.”

Still, it couldn’t have been that bad: After dinner, the pair picked up a bottle of champagne at a liquor store. Guess she treated again! She even reached for, and held his hand while they walked, so there must have been an understanding between them.

Kirsten Dunst’s hair nearly ruined her Vogue cover shoot, according to Women’s Wear Daily. Dunst, who went white blonde for Marie Antoinette and red for “Spider-Man 3,” was scheduled to appear on the cover of the mag to promote the new Sofia Coppola biopic.

Reknowned shutterbug Annie Leibovitz shot the actress for the cover, but the photographs were deemed unusable by the Vogue editors, due to Dunst’s awkward hair color (she tried to dye it back to blonde after Spider-Man 3 wrapped). Dunst was sent back to the salon and Leibovitz was dispatched to shoot a second cover last week, once Dunst’s fried mane was remedied.
