Just days after joining the “American Idols Live” tour after recovering from bronchitis and laryngitis, Katharine McPhee has suffered a new setback: a fractured foot. The Idol runner-up, 22, was injured Tuesday night when she tripped backstage before a concert at Bobcats Arena in Charlotte, N.C., the New York Post reports.

McPhee went on with the show, singing two songs while wearing slippers. X-rays taken at a hospital afterward revealed a hairline fracture in her left foot, the Post says. In spite of the injury, McPhee will stay on the “Idols Live” tour. “She’s in discomfort, but she’s fine,” said Roger Widynowski, a rep for McPhee’s record label, RCA. “She will continue on the tour and is not defaulting.”

Although the tour kicked off on July 6, McPhee missed the first three weeks, citing doctors’ orders not to sing while she was sick. She was scheduled to perform with her fellow Idol finalists for the first time on July 27 in Pittsburgh, but her flight was cancelled due to bad weather.

Finally, she gave her first performance in Washington, D.C., on July 28. Announcing that she was still under doctors’ orders to limit her vocalizing, she skipped the group numbers, but sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and KT Tunstall’s “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree.”

McPhee gives me the impression she is a whiny little girl. If she bails on this tour for any reason, she may never get another chance to be a star. It never ceases to amaze me at how little some people appreciate the chance to be a star, and others squander the opportunity with 24 hour partying like Lindsay Lohan.

Katharine McPhee is the latest anti-Star to guest host The View with Barbara Walters, Joy Behar, and a totally “down” Elizabeth Hasselbeck sporting a pink ’do rag. Over the course of the morning, the 22-year-old announced that people ages 60 and over are “old” (Babs is turning 75 in September!), dished about her 41-year-old boyfriend, and floated conspiracy theories on Lance Bass‘ latent he-crush on Justin Timberlake.

Joy: “Don’t you have a boyfriend also now these days?”
Katharine: Yes.
Joy: “Tell us about him.”
Katharine: “He’s cool. His name’s Nick and we’ve been together for about a year.”
Barbara: “He’s a little older than you?”
Katharine: “Oh, a little…19 years!”
Elisabeth: “What does your dad think about that?”
Katharine: “Everyone was pretty cool about it in the beginning. You know, it happens a lot, and it is a lot of years but I’ve always been a little bit older than I am.”
Joy: “Think of it this way; when you’re sixty he’ll be eighty.”
Katharine: I mean it isn’t really that big of a difference…once you’re old, you’re old!

Barbara: “[Lance Bass] says he feels liberated [about coming out of the closet] and in the article [in People magazine] he said that he told all the other members of the group [’N Sync], everyone except Justin Timberlake. I wonder why.”
Katharine: “Yeah! Why is that? I didn’t understand that either.”
Joy: “Because he must be scared of Justin. What else could explain it?”
Katharine: “Maybe he has a crush on him!”
Elisabeth: “Who knows? Maybe he did at one time. You never know.”

In a 2001 McDonald’s commercial Lance plays spin-the-bottle and it lands on Justin, whose expression says he was definitely not lovin’ it.

P.S. Note to McPhee: Just because your boyfriend is mature, experienced, and knowledgable about life and the world, doesn’t mean you will instantly have the same qualities just because you’re dating him.
