Andrew Gallo, pictured above, killed Nick Adenhart (22), pictured below, who played for The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, in a hit-and-run DUI in Fullerton, California early this morning. Adenhart was killed about a little more than an hour after giving his last interview.

Police say Gallo ran a red light causing the Mitsubishi that Adenhart and three others were riding in to hit a light pole. Three of the four people in the Mitsubishi were killed in the crash, Nick, another man, and Courtney Stewart (20), while the fourth person, Jon Wilhite, remains in the hospital in critical condition. Gallo then fled the scene.

After police caught up with Gallo he was arrested for felony hit-and-run DUI. Police add that Gallo may be booked on murder charges, along with vehicular manslaughter, hit-and-run and felony DUI.

Stewart, blond pictured below, was a student, and cheerleader, at Cal State Fullerton was also a member of Alpha Chi Omega.

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the family of Nick Adenhart released a joint statement on the tragic death of the 22-year-old starting pitcher:

Angels Baseball this morning announced the passing of right-hander Nick Adenhart, the victim of a fatal automobile accident in Fullerton, CA. Two other individuals were also killed in the incident.

Adenhart, 22, was a passenger in a silver Mitsubishi along with three others. Fullerton Police reported the Mitsubishi proceeded through an intersection, when a van ran a red light and broadsided the vehicle. A female driver and male passenger in the Mitsubishi were dead when police and fire department personnel arrived. Adenhart died as the result of his injuries at UCI Medical Center earlier this morning. No other members of the Angels organization were involved.

Adenhart pitched a masterful six innings in last night’s game against Oakland (6 IP, 7 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 SO), leaving with a 4-0 lead before a late-inning rally resulted in a 6-4 Angels defeat.

A sports writer last evening also wrote that Nick’s performance was "brilliant effort by a 22-year-old right-hander making his fourth Major League start."

Jon Wilhite, a former baseball star at Cal State Fullerton, pictured above, is the only survivor from the fatal car accident that killed three of his friends. Jon is currently in critical condition at the UC Irvine Medical Center.

This is a tragedy that was completely avoidable. I have to wonder if Gallo had a previous DUI record, a current driver’s license, or if he was even legal to be in the United States. There’s a lot wrong with this picture, especially the fact that Gallo didn’t even try to help the people he hit by calling 9-1-1. A lot of lives were lost today, and even more have been severely damaged by Gallo’s irresponsible, and selfish behavior.
