Joaquin Phoenix To Star in Adaptation of Reservation Road
Hollywood Grind just got the word: Joaquin Phoenix is in negotiations to star in a film adaptation of “Reservation Road,” the novel by John Burnham Schwartz. Directed by “Hotel Rwanda” writer/director Terry George, it marks the Oscar-nominated George’s first project since “Rwanda.” (George wrote and was to have directed the Denzel Washington drama, “American Gangster” but dropped out of the project after Universal lost interest in its escalating budget.) The film, like the novel, explores the emotional aftermath following the hit-and-run killing of a college professor’s 10-year-old son, and his subsequent desperate hunt for the murderer. The pairing of the Oscar-nominated Phoenix (”Walk the Line“) and George (”Hotel Rwanda”) is clearly Oscar-bait, but as usual, it’s the indies that will have to carry that water: No studio is yet attached to the project as a distributor, but our spies tell us the New York millionaire Dean Lovett is financing the film with the hopes that a studio will snap it up for an easy, pre-fab entry to Academy Awards season. Joaquin Phoenix Up in Smoke
Joaquin Phoenix (31) was caught smoking cigarettes in New York, NY. He dropped by the Morrison Hotel Gallery in SoHo, which sells fine arts music and photography, located at 124 Prince Street, looking for some Clash photos.
I guess he may have started smoking when filming the Johnny Cash movie "Walking the Line," (which was excellent BTW).
Joaquin could have also started after his recent accident in Los Angeles on Beverly Glenn. For those who don’t know, Beverly Glenn has a 2-lane stretch of road that is very long, and has a fairly steep incline/decline, and winding curves. It is fun to drive, and it goes past Beverly Hills star estates, and serves as a main shortcut from Westwood to North Hollywood and the like. Anyway, Joaquin was in a car accident on that road, hit another vehicle, totalled his, but walked away with only minor injuries, and all a day before the Golden Globe awards. Lucky he wasn’t killed. The accident didn’t kill him, but the cigarettes surely will (slowly).

He has smoked for years, he didn't just start. I do wish he would stop, but no one can ...
