Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy have laughed off reports they are engaged, and plan to elope in September. The couple has been dating quietly since December, and only went public with their romance last month. Last week, the National Enquirer claimed the couple was planning to make it official and elope to Cabo San Lucas in Mexico over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

However, Carrey’s representative says, “They are not engaged. It’s a rumor.” McCarthy’s spokesperson reiterates, “They are not engaged.”

McCarthy (33) split from husband John Asher last August, while Carrey has been married twice before to Melissa Womer (87-95) and Lauren Holly (96-97).

The couple has remained tight-lipped over their relationship, but McCarthy recently revealed, “He’s an amazing person and that’s all I have to say. I’m very happy.”

Friends tells tabloid National Enquirer that the pair are making tentative plans to dash off to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, to tie the knot at the end of the summer. Carrey has been married twice before – to actress Lauren Holly and his first wife Melissa Womer.

One word: PRENUP. McCarthy is looking for a new daddy for her baby. I would rather see them just stay together, but not get married since they’ve already failed before. Then again I do love it when the sh*t hits the gossip fan, so by all means elope. The whole story may be BS. The source is the National Enquirer. First came the sightings, then the rumors. Now a source close to the two finally confirms it: Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy are indeed a couple.

“They are very happy,” the source told People.

But even though the pair was spotted at an L.A. restaurant last month, don’t think they’re going public. When McCarthy, 33, was asked recently on The View if she was dating a “well-known comedian who makes funny faces,” she replied, “No comment. Does that ever work?”

Rumors that the two were an item have been percolating since late last year. When asked by People at the December premiere of Fun With Dick and Jane whether he was seeing McCarthy, Carrey, 44, paused before saying: “I like her, she’s a nice person.”

Reps for both stars declined to comment.

McCarthy divorced her husband of five years, director John Asher, last year. She is currently promoting her newest book, Life Laughs: The Naked Truth About Motherhood, Marriage and Moving On.
