Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake FCC Superbowl Fine Thrown Out

On Monday a federal appeals court threw out a $550,000 indecency fine against CBS Corp. for the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show that ended with Janet Jackson’s breast-baring "wardrobe malfunction." The 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that the Federal Communications Commission "acted arbitrarily and capriciously" in issuing the fine for the fleeting image of nudity.
The court found that the FCC deviated from its nearly 30-year practice of fining indecent broadcast programming only when it was so "pervasive as to amount to ’shock treatment’ for the audience."
"Like any agency, the FCC may change its policies without judicial second-guessing," the court said. "But it cannot change a well-established course of action without supplying notice of and a reasoned explanation for its policy departure."
The fine was one of the biggest in history, and it appears also one of the most unfair.

Jackson Family Broke

The New York Post took a close look into the Jackson family finances and found, the Jackson family is barely scraping by, with one brother stocking groceries, another repairing cars and others living at home with mom while hoping for sister Janet’s next handout.
Joseph Jackson, 79 and Katherine Jackson, 77
Dad hustles various girl groups in Las Vegas. Mom is still a stay-at-home housewife and the only family member in contact with Michael. Both have previously filed for bankruptcy.
Janet Jackson, 41
The current family breadwinner. She bought her mom a Vegas home in anticipation of losing the family’s mansion, Hayvenhurst, to foreclosure. Like their Neverland colleagues, workers at Hayvenhurst have not been paid for months.
La Toya Jackson, 52

Randy Jackson, 46
Does odd jobs like changing tires to support himself. He was Michael’s business manager during the 2005 molestation trial but ran into serious problems with friends after he persuaded three people to take out lines of credits against their homes to help Michael pay his attorney fees and Michael stiffed them.
Marlon Jackson, 51
Lives in San Diego, where he works stocking groceries at a Vons supermarket. He fell on hard times three years ago when he was forced to leave his foreclosed home and move into an Extended Stay America hotel with his wife, Carol.
Jackie Jackson, 56
The oldest son started an Internet clothing business and is trying to produce records by his sons. Nothing has panned out.
Jermaine Jackson, 54
Splits time between the parents’ Hayvenhurst mansion and his girlfriend’s home in the San Fernando Valley. With more than $5 million in federal, state and other liens against him and a 1995 bankruptcy filing, he doesn’t work or have a regular income.
The Jacksons had a chance to live incredible lives, but blew it all. It’s no wonder the Jackson family want to tour again together.

Who is Number 1 in the world?

Janet Jackson, pictured below, sold 181,075 copies of her album this week putting her at the top of US Pop music charts. While we may only focus on music here in the U.S., other singers are doing just as well in other markets, and countries.
Boa Kwon (21), aka BoA, pictured above, has a new album, The Face which has hit number 1 in Japan. This is Boa’s 6th album to reach the top spot on Oricon’s Weekly Charts since her debut in 2001. However, if you include her Best of Soul album released in 2005, that’s a record of 7 number 1 albums. That is more than any other Japanese artist. BoA’s album, The Face sold 111,000 copies in a week. BoA is from South Korea, but also appeals to the Japanese market.
It would be nice to see a global music chart to see how each artist compares from around the world.
