jade goody has cervical cancer surgery Jade Goody is Having Cancer Surgery

Jade Goody, who was recently diagnosed with advanced cervical cancer, checked into a hospital Friday morning to have surgery. Dailymail reports:

"It will either be a radical hysterectomy which will take eight hours or it will be another operation called smoothing the glands. It depends on what they find when they go in. If it is the smoothing the glands operation it will take around four hours. We hope it will be the radical hysterectomy because that means the cancer hasn’t spread. In that case she will be in intensive care for about 24 hours. We’ll find out in the evening when we speak to her surgeon. She is unconscious at the moment and it’s all going on as we speak. I spoke to her last night and she was as comfortable as possible and trying to be positive but was obviously feeling very scared as any 27-year-old in that situation would. She is in the best possible hands."

This is why pap smears are done once a year in the United States. Cervical cancer in the U.S. is usually caught early, and easily treated. In the U.K. pap smears are done every three years. Hopefully Jade will get through this, and will be healthy again.

"or it will be another operation called smoothing the glands". I've certainly never heard of this procedure before!

Cervical cancer in the UK, as well as the US, is usually prevented by simple treatment. Smears every three years ...

Jade Goody, the racist from Big Brother, wants everyone to know she has cervical cancer. Her rep said:

"It looks like her cancer is at an early stage but we will have to wait until she gets back to Britain and sees a specialist and has more tests."

Goody has cervical cancer, which is the type of cancer every woman gets checked for once a year with a pap smear. It’s highly curable. I had a friend who had cervical cancer three times, and three beautiful children.

Cervical cancer can be caused by Human papillomavirus (HPV), and HPV is considered an STD (sexually transmitted disease). There is a vaccine available, but I believe it’s only for woman who are not already infected.

If Goody’s cervical cancer was found on a routine pap smear then she’ll be cured easily, especially since her rep says it was caught early. In recent years Goody has been getting checked for Ovarian, and bowel cancer, but both of those test have been negative. Although her announcement about cervical cancer appears to be for publicity, and attention, we still wish her a speedy recovery.
