I saw G.I. Joe – The Rise of Cobra Sunday, and it was really good. Well worth seeing it at the theater, and much better than the critics said it would be. Critics gave G.I. Joe a D, but I gave it a B. The critics really got it wrong on this movie.

First the bad news. Channing Tatum, who plays Duke, gave a very weak acting performance. It’s no wonder the author of a book about a real hired killer broke off a movie deal because Tatum was picked to play the lead. The author said Tatum wasn’t tough enough, and wanted Mickey Rourke. The author was so right.

The good news is that everyone else, even Sienna Miller, who played the Baroness, gave really good performances.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt is set to play a lead role in the sequel, since he becomes the Cobra Commander.

Not only was this an unexpectedly good movie, but I will see the sequel.

If the rest of the movie is as good as this small clip, then this could be another summer blockbuster. G.I. Joe action figures, and toys are already selling in stores ahead of the movie release. G.I. Joe hit theaters August 7.

Last week the new James Bond film Quantum of Solace had filming production suspended after two serious accidents occurred in Italy involving two stunt men, pictured above, one of which had serious head injuries, and is fighting for his life in a hospital.

Today SEVEN people were injured in a collision between a bus and several cars during the filming of G.I. Joe in the center of Prauge. It appeared an all-wheel-drive vehicle hit the bus after having brake problems.

In April 2002, a stunt man from the United States was killed in Prague during the filming of the Rob Cohen action film Triple X.

Only minor injuries were reported in the G.I. Joe accident.

There needs to be better coordination on the set, and even better stunt planning and choreography. Being in the movies can be dangerous.
