Oprah Winfrey released the following statement regarding the sexual misconduct of a 15 year-old lesbian at her South Africa school for girls:

"Indiscretions resulting in disciplinary action are common in schools all over the world. Unfortunately, because of my name these common infractions place the Academy in the media spotlight."

"As each of the girls enrolled, she agreed to adhere to the school’s Honor Code and code of conduct policy, which values personal integrity and ensures an environment of shared trust and community."

"It’s disheartening when any student has to be suspended or expelled and it’s a process that involves serious review and consideration. We will not tolerate a violation of school policy and dishonesty. We insist on maintaining a campus environment that commands mutual respect, fosters academic excellence and encourages learners to fulfill their best potential."

The underlying problem appears to be a lack of adult supervision. The "trust" given to the students creates an environment for abuse of that trust. Perhaps a more structured environment combined with greater guidance could lessen the problems at the school. The school itself appears to be operating as an experiment, rather than based on a framework proven out over time by quality private learning institutions.

It seems inappropriate that lesbian students are allowed to sleep and shower in the same dormitory as heterosexual students. This appears to have created an environment where a predator lesbian has access to, and time alone, to attempt to molest other students.

Oprah Winfrey’s girls school in South Africa has been rocked by a second sex scandal in less than two years. This time the accused are students.

According to the newspaper Afrikaans on Sunda, seven students were suspended last week for sexually harassing their schoolmates. One 15-year-old was accused of preying on another pupil and forcing other girls to lie to investigators about it. A letter read to her parents read:

"You have been found guilty of physical contact of a sexual nature with another pupil on campus, harassment, bullying other girls on campus, and of being dishonest by not telling investigators the whole truth."

Other girls were caught fondling each other or trying to get other girls to join them in lesbian acts.

Oprah’s spokesperson, Lisa Halliday, confirmed the girls had been suspended from the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy School for Girls, but gave few details:

"”Several students were expelled last week for violating the Leadership Academy’s code of conduct. We consider this to be a confidential school matter. Therefore, we will not confirm any personal information or disclose any details related to these expulsions.”"

Ten months after the school was opened, Winfrey sobbed uncontrollably after 15 girls reported they had been sexually abused by a matron who was supposed to be watching over them. Oprah said at the time:

"I am a mama bear when it comes to protecting my children. These girls are like my children. That’s not just rhetoric for me. I take their futures and the possibility for what their futures hold very seriously."

Other than suspended the lesbian girls molesting other girls at the school, there’s isn’t a lot Oprah, or school officials, can do. It was easier to deal with this problem when the offender was an adult. It seems that the underlying problem is a lack of appropriate adult supervision exists at the school. Perhaps the girls are spending too much time alone. Perhaps the school should rethink their approach, and perhaps mimic other successful private schools from around the world, where sexual abuse does not appear to be a problem.

Paul Donahoe (above) and Kenny Jordan (below) posed for gay porn site Fratmen.tv. Once Nebraska wrestling coach Mark Manning found out, he kicked them off the team … permanently. Manning said in a statement:

"This incident was not the sole factor considered before the decision was reached to dismiss the two wrestlers."

In April, Donahoe was arrested and taken to jail by Lincoln police after they were called to investigate a loud party. Police said Donahoe was argumentative and refused to help in breaking up the party. He was convicted in May of maintaining a disorderly house and fined $250.

Manning continued:

“The history of behavior of these men, including the current matter, does not reflect the standard of excellence we aspire to on and off the mat.”

“We will move forward in a positive manner toward our goals. I want to personally apologize for any embarrassment that may have been caused for our athletic department, the university and our fans.”

The boys were not kicked off the team because they were gay, but because they violated NCAA rules.

Josh White, NU’s assistant athletic director for compliance, told The Associated Press that Donahoe and Jordan were declared ineligible because they violated an NCAA rule that prohibits athletes from receiving compensation for the use of their images by anyone seeking commercial gain.

NCAA athletes are not allowed to knowingly let pictures of themselves be used for commercial purposes. Athletes would be considered ineligible for competition if they accept any compensation or permit the use of their image to advertise, recommend or promote directly any commercial endeavor.

White said both Jordan and Donahoe had violated the rule and said each wrestler would have to apply to the NCAA for reinstatement if they were to choose to wrestle for another school.

These boys could have a successful career, but not in wrestling.

Michael Verdugo was placed on administrative leave from the Hollywood, Florida police force on Wednesday. Verdugo was known as Mikey V when he was a recent contestant on HGTV’s Design Star.

The reason Verdugo was suspended is unclear, but appears to be related to problems he has been having with his police partner Eric Augustus, who is heterosexual.

Verdugo appeared in a 1996 gay bondage film called Rope Rituals, which is not longer in print. He joined the police force in 2001, 5 years after making the movie. The trouble in the police department didn’t start with Verdugo’s porn past, and appears to have nothing to do with his current problems. In 2004 Hollywood cops responded to a domestic disturbance call involving two gay men. Both were Hollywood cops. One was Verdugo, who had been working in the department for three years, but had not come out to his co-workers.

Chief Scarberry was concerned Verdugo would be harassed. During lineup on the morning after the incident, according to department sources, Scarberry delivered a stern warning: Any officer who teased Verdugo or the other gay officer could expect a suspension and possible dismissal.

The police Chief was protecting Verdugo from any harassment, but then Verdugo started filing complaints against his partner Augustus, who has a distinguished 19 year career. It could be that Verdugo may have been the one with the problems. The knee-jerk reaction is to believe gay harassement, when it could be the opposite, heterosexual harassment by Verdugo, that could have caused him to be suspended. We’ll have to wait and see what the investigation determines.

A police spokesman said:

"Verdugo has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of a fact-finding Internal Affairs investigation."

Verdugo’s attorney, Al Milian, said:

"My client has done nothing wrong. He has served the community of Hollywood with honor and distinction for over 10 years. The only reason someone would criticize my client is that he publicly has a different lifestyle. My client has done absolutely nothing wrong. Nothing unethical. Nothing to bring discredit upon his police department, except serve his community."
