Elizabeth Taylor (76), who has a chronic condition called congestive heart failure had to be put on life support. Congestive heart failure (CHF) causes enlargement of the heart, and weakening of the heart muscle as it overstreches from the enlargement, that can lead to the lungs filling up with fluid. Normally diuretics, like Lasix, are given to allow the person to get rid of the extra fluid by peeing. If the kidneys are not working so good, pneumonia or pulmonary edema can develop, requiring a respirator, aka life support, to breathe until the lungs are clear again.

Taylor was hospitalized on July 15 after the flu turned into pneumonia, which then required a respirator. Doctors say Taylor is now past her medical crisis, and can breathe on her own once again.

Taylor’s rep says:

“Ms. Taylor is fine. The Rumors which began in England about her health are dramatic, overstated and untrue. Her hospital visit was precautionary. She will be returning home shortly. At present, she is surrounded by family, friends and fabulous jewels.”
