We already know that a computer technician, Dicky Sze Ho-chun (24), leaked photos he stole from the laptop of Edison Chen, and although more details emerged at the trial, there is still more story to tell. What hasn’t been reported yet is that there is also a coverup to shield others who were involved, including those working for law enforcement in Hong Kong. It appears only Ho-chun will take the fall for distributing the pictures, when he was not alone.

More details have emerged from the trial of the computer technician who is charged with illegally accessing Edison Chen’s computer and distributing racy photos of him and numerous starlets.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, two female friends testified against Sze Ho-chun, 24. They were also the ones who reported him to the police when the photos started being widely distributed on the Internet in January 2008.

They say that in 2006, when he was at their store to repair an Apple PowerMacG5, he connected his computer to the company server to show them the racy photos.

He then burnt about 1,300 photos onto DVDs and passed it to them as gifts, and even told them how he obtained the images.

The computer technician, Dicky Sze Ho-chun (24), accused of accessing the private, intimate photos of entertainer Edison Chen and distributing them on the Internet, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of obtaining access to a computer with a view to dishonest gain for himself.

Ho-chun is alleged by prosecutors to have copied from a server thousands of images of Canto pop star Edison Chen Koon-hei engaged in s*xual acts with actresses and celebrities including Gillian Chung, Cecilia Cheung, Bobo Chan, Rachel Ngan, and more.

Prosecutor Hayson Tse said that Sze’s colleague named Tse saved the computer data from Chen’s laptop on an external hard disk drive as backup when Chen took his machine to Elite Multimedia Limited for repair between 2005 and 2006.

Sze allegedly copied the photos from the hard drive to a computer server connected to the Internet.

The lewd images became widely circulated on the Web in late January, 2008. Sze was arrested on February 2 for distributing obscene articles but denied the charge.

"I didn’t distribute the celebrity n*de photos but I know my colleague repaired Chen’s computer around October 2006," Sze was quoted as saying.

However, 11 of the photos were recovered from Sze’s personal computer last year.

Tse added Sze had shown the images to two employees at a household store, which employed Elite Multimedia to service its computer.

The two females, Fanny Choi and Janet Leung, were quoted by prosecutors as saying Sze told them how he accessed the images. The women said Sze then handed them a compact-disc, containing 1,300 er*tic pictures.

Choi and Leung will be called to testify today.

Chief Magistrate Tong Man also heard Chen’s deposition, taken in Canada, in February.

Chen had declined to appear in a Hong Kong courtroom saying he feared for his safety if he came to the SAR.

Chen stressed in his deposition he was the sole user of all four computers involved in the case. He said he had not disclosed the passwords to those computers to anyone.

Only he and the women shown in the photos had seen pictures, which had been deleted from the digital cameras with which they were taken after Chen uploaded them to computers. None of the four women received copies.

Chen said either he or his driver would remain present when the machines were taken for maintenance and he never left the machines in the shop overnight with one exception.

Chen said he believed the pictures were stolen during a repair in 2006.

"They invaded my privacy and stole my things in a very direct way," he said.

The naughty picture scandal smashed Chen’s entertainment career in Hong Kong. He announced an early retirement from the local industry last year.

Sze, who doesn’t have criminal record, is on bail. If convicted, he could spend up to five years in jai. The trial at Kowloon City Magistracy will continue today. Sixteen witnesses have been called. The trial is expected to last for ten days.

The pictures showed Chen in compromising positions with celebrities including Canto-pop star Gillian Chung, actress Cecilia Cheung and former actress Bobo Chan.

Edison appeared in Singapore on Sunday (April 5) to promote his movie "The Sniper".

Wanbao reports that he lashed out at reporters from a local news website when they asked him about his father’s bankruptcy, saying "I don’t know why people won’t think that I will help my family. What makes you think that I am not helping my family?"

His appearance came less than a month after a Hong Kong television station received an anonymous letter packed together with a gold bullet warning Chen to stay away from public events if he valued his life.

Edison is a good example of how arrogance can ruin a person’s life.

Only 2 months after news of the Edison Chen and Gillian Chung naughty pic scandal hit the Internet, Edison has now confirmed he lied when he said he would be retiring from the entertainment industry. HG received information Edison had met with executives in California to work for Hollywood, since Hong Kong felt so betrayed by his escapades.

Edison Chen will appear in a movie opposite Shu Qi, a Singapore newspaper, reported today. The movie is a collaboration between a Singapore company and an independent American production house.

Filming will take place in both Singapore and Chicago, and $13.8 million has already been secured for the film’s budget according to reports from Lianhe Wanbao. Shu Qi will play a woman who meets an American student, played by Edison, who is working in Singapore.

Edison’s agent has disclosed that the actor is going to start shooting this summer, according to China Daily, citing news agencies.

As HG reported previously, Edison’s plan was to simply transition from Hong Kong star, to international star, which lends more credibility to information we received that Edison leaked the naughty pictures himself to boost his career to International status.

Edison Chen spent 10 hours yesterday being questioned by Hong Kong police after they seized more computer equipment from his home. On the computer equipment, which includes the Cotton Candy Mac, police found another 1,000 naughty pictures and videos. Three new celebrity women were also identified in the new pictures. Hong Kong police notified the girls they had found pictures of them on Edison’s computer. While in Hong Kong Edison has been staying at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel.

Today Edison was back at the Wanchai Police Headquarters where he was questioned by police again. Police now suspect that Edison was actually working with the computer technician who was arrested by police after being accused of stealing, then distributing the naughty pictures from Edison’s laptop after he repaired it. Police suspect that Edison arranged for the technician to spread the photos to help boost Edison’s image internationally, much like it did for Paris Hilton, in the hopes he would be able to get more work in Hollywood, and other countries outside Hong Kong. The technician may have not received any money from Edison directly, instead he may have made money selling the photos on the black market, and may have received some of the profit from street vendors who have been selling CDs of the pictures.

If Edison did arrange for the pictures to be distributed with his permission, it would justify his fear of being prosecuted by police in Hong Kong, and may be the reason he tried to cut a deal with police and prosecutors before returning to Hong Kong. Today was the second day of questioning for Edison, which could mean he is a suspect. The technician was released from police custody earlier this month.

Edison’s sister, Trician Chen, says she has been speaking to Edison several times a day, and that Edison plans to leave Hong Kong as soon as possible. Once again, it seems Edison wants to get far away from Hong Kong before police officially arrest him.

If police find out for sure that Edison is directly responsible for leaking the naughty pictures to boost his career, he is sure to be in bigger trouble than first thought.
