The Taking of Pelham 123
Denzel Washington, John Travolta, James Gandolfini, John Turturro star in The Taking of Pelham 123.
Synopsis: Armed men hijack a New York City subway train, holding the passengers hostage in return for a ransom, and turning an ordinary day’s work for dispatcher Walter Garbe into a face-off with the mastermind behind the crime.
The movie will hit theaters on June 12, 2009. With so many good upcoming movies, I will probably see this one on DVD, or not at all.
Will Smith and Jada Speak Out on Chris Brown and Rihanna

At the NAACP Image Awards on Thursday night, Will Smith told Extra that he and his wife Jada are supporting Chris Brown and Rihanna.
"Jada and I reached out to both of them," Will said. "If it’s help they need, then let’s get it right."
Speaking out about the alleged attack involving Brown and Rihanna, Smith commented, "This is a time where they need to be left alone and if they have things they need to work out, work it out."
Smith urged the public to stop speculating about the incident saying, "People should take a minute before they jump on it and judge. We don’t know nothing. If there are mistakes people make, then they should be willing to live up to the mistakes and do whatever penance they need to do. I don’t think it’s up to us, specifically the media, with such a fast hand to try to chop someone’s head off."
Will offers some good advice.
On another note, remember how Will Smith was trying to get a movie together with Tom Cruise? Well, Tom has chosen to work with Denzel Washington on his next action drama flick. We can’t say that’s a bad choice, but Will rules the box office right now, so for Tom’s sake, he should consider teaming up with Will soon.
Denzel Washington Tells Kids Don’t Hate

Denzel Washington tells his four kids the world is perfect, but don’t become a hater.
"I try to teach my children there are going to be obstacles," Washington, 53, said on Monday’s Early Show, about his remembrances of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. "Someone may not like you just because they don’t like themselves. But, don’t you get bogged down."
He says, "Don’t be a hater. Don’t let hatred destroy you. Overcome it, move on, educate them, if you will." Washington has four children with wife Pauletta: John David, 23, Katia, 20, and Olivia and Malcolm, both 16.
Washington, who played civil-rights icon Malcolm X in the 1992 movie, says that when he was growing up, his family talked about King, Jr. and the 1960s civil rights movement.
"My father was a minister in the Church of God and Christ," said Washington is stars in the current movie, The Great Debaters. "There was talk of this other guy, Malcolm X, that was not allowed to somehow be talked about. And of course, there was Martin Luther King."
This is just another reason to respect Denzel for who he is, and what he stands for. Another positive role mode. I love it.
American Gangster Swats Bee Movie Out of Top Spot

American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe, took in $46.3 million this weekend to take the top spot over Jerry Seinfeld’s Bee Movie which took in $39.1 million. Don’t bring a stinger to a gun fight. American Gangster was good, I saw it on Friday.
Frank Lucas – Superfly – American Gangster

Last night I went to see American Gangster, and it was good. The movie is about a heroin kingpin named Frank Lucas, nick named Superfly, played by Denzel Washington, who is brought down by a truly honest cop New Jersey detective Richie Roberts played by Russell Crowe. Denzel deserves an Oscar. Towards the end of the movie some blacks walked out angrily saying Lucas was scum because he snitched on other criminals. I was surprised to see this behavior, but having seen so many interviews where blacks discourage telling the police who committed a crime, because they consider it a betrayal to other blacks, helped me understand where the negative sentiment came from. Lucas was however, without a doubt, a very important person in the history of the United States. He had a black market heroin empire that rivaled even the Mafia. I wanted to learn more about him, and I found an interesting article about him and his life written back in 2000. If you’d like to learn more too click here to read the article.
