David Blaine Treated for Skin Problems

David Blaine will be treated by doctors inside his water-filled sphere, after complaining of skin problems.

After five days contained inside the tank at New York City’s Lincoln Center, Blaine’s skin is peeling and he is experiencing “constant pins and needles” according to his spokesman Pat Smith.

Blaine insists he is determined to complete the stunt, which will culminate on Monday with 33-year-old Blaine’s attempt to break the world record for holding breath under water, currently eight minutes and fifty eight seconds.

Smith says, “Doctors are concerned that he’s weakening. They are going to work with him through the weekend, trying to stabilize both his diet and his training regimen. “His skin is peeling very badly on his hands. Those are our biggest concerns right now.” Blaine has a mask and air line inside the tank and is being fed liquid nutrition through a tube, but doctors warn prolonged submersion in water can cause nerve damage, sleep depravation and skin damage.

When a person’s body is left in the water for a prolonged period of time, the water softens it, and it just falls apart. If Blaine sustains damage to more than 30% of his body, much like a burn victim, he could die. At the end of his stunt Blaine wants to try to get out of 150 pounds of chains while holding his breath. By the time Blaine tries to escape those chains his skin will be ready to fall off, and those chains will tear his skin off.

I’ve got my fingers crossed that Blaine completes this stunt without dying.

Courtney Cox, David Arquette, and their 23-month old
daughter, Coco, paid a visit to submerged illusionist David Blaine
at his underwater exhibit.

Blaine has been living in an eight-foot-high water-filled sphere in New
York’s Lincoln Center since Monday.

The wannabe Houdini was happy to see the family and wrote a special message
saying little Coco looked "beautiful."

Some people just do magic for a
living.  This is no illusion.

David Blaine Starts Under Water Stunt

In New York City at the Lincoln Center, David Blaine began his latest stunt
yesterday after lowering himself into his "human aquarium" where he will live
for the next seven days.

The magician will end the stint by trying to break the record for holding breath
under water of eight minutes 58 seconds.

But Blaine, 33, announced a twist to the finale – he will have to escape from
150lb of metal chains or drown.

The showman, who spent 44 days in a glass box in London in 2003, told crowds he
was "feeling pretty good".

He said: "I’ve been on an intensive schedule, more so than for anything I’ve
ever done in my life."

Oxygen and liquid nutrition tubes will keep him alive in the 8ft of water at the
Lincoln Centre in New York.

Doctors told him he risks hypothermia, blacking out and nerve damage.

He entered wearing trousers, rubber shoes and a diving mask but has a wetsuit to
use if needed.

Lots of cool pictures in the gallery after the jump…

David Blaine has a Sinking Feeling

David Blaine’s latest stunt will see him struggling to escape from 150lb of
heavy chains while he’s underwater – or drown.

The magician – who is spending a week submerged in a water-filled container in
New York – is planning the dramatic spectacle for the finale of his latest
stunt.

The illusionist looked relaxed as he entered the container yesterday.

He is quoted as saying he was "feeling pretty good" about the challenge.

Blaine will use specially created ‘life-lines’ which will provide him with
nutrition and air to stay alive while he is in the tank.

After the week is up, the 33-year-old will also remove his air supply and
attempt to break the world record for holding his breath – currently set at
eight minutes 58 seconds.
