KFC Copyright Infringed in China

In China a fast food chain founded in 2007, called Ji’a’po, now has over a hundred store locations in China. Ji’a’po has a logo that looks very similar to KFC’s Colonel Sanders. Is this copyright infringement?

According to the Oriental Morning Post, there is no infringement in this case, because it is claimed by the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. Communist governments have no problem with copyrights unless they say there is a problem. Brad Pitt should make a note of this.

Computer Technician on Trial for Leaking Edison Chen Naughty Photos

We already know that a computer technician, Dicky Sze Ho-chun (24), leaked photos he stole from the laptop of Edison Chen, and although more details emerged at the trial, there is still more story to tell. What hasn’t been reported yet is that there is also a coverup to shield others who were involved, including those working for law enforcement in Hong Kong. It appears only Ho-chun will take the fall for distributing the pictures, when he was not alone.

Sze pleaded not guilty in the court to illegally copying and distributing more than 1,000 photos of Edison Chen performing s*x acts with a string of starlets.

More details have emerged from the trial of the computer technician who is charged with illegally accessing Edison Chen’s computer and distributing racy photos of him and numerous starlets.

According to Lianhe Wanbao, two female friends testified against Sze Ho-chun, 24. They were also the ones who reported him to the police when the photos started being widely distributed on the Internet in January 2008.

They say that in 2006, when he was at their store to repair an Apple PowerMacG5, he connected his computer to the company server to show them the racy photos.

He then burnt about 1,300 photos onto DVDs and passed it to them as gifts, and even told them how he obtained the images.

The computer technician, Dicky Sze Ho-chun (24), accused of accessing the private, intimate photos of entertainer Edison Chen and distributing them on the Internet, has pleaded not guilty to three counts of obtaining access to a computer with a view to dishonest gain for himself.

Ho-chun is alleged by prosecutors to have copied from a server thousands of images of Canto pop star Edison Chen Koon-hei engaged in s*xual acts with actresses and celebrities including Gillian Chung, Cecilia Cheung, Bobo Chan, Rachel Ngan, and more.

Prosecutor Hayson Tse said that Sze’s colleague named Tse saved the computer data from Chen’s laptop on an external hard disk drive as backup when Chen took his machine to Elite Multimedia Limited for repair between 2005 and 2006.

Sze allegedly copied the photos from the hard drive to a computer server connected to the Internet.

The lewd images became widely circulated on the Web in late January, 2008. Sze was arrested on February 2 for distributing obscene articles but denied the charge.

"I didn’t distribute the celebrity n*de photos but I know my colleague repaired Chen’s computer around October 2006," Sze was quoted as saying.

However, 11 of the photos were recovered from Sze’s personal computer last year.

Tse added Sze had shown the images to two employees at a household store, which employed Elite Multimedia to service its computer.

The two females, Fanny Choi and Janet Leung, were quoted by prosecutors as saying Sze told them how he accessed the images. The women said Sze then handed them a compact-disc, containing 1,300 er*tic pictures.

Choi and Leung will be called to testify today.

Chief Magistrate Tong Man also heard Chen’s deposition, taken in Canada, in February.

Chen had declined to appear in a Hong Kong courtroom saying he feared for his safety if he came to the SAR.

Chen stressed in his deposition he was the sole user of all four computers involved in the case. He said he had not disclosed the passwords to those computers to anyone.

Only he and the women shown in the photos had seen pictures, which had been deleted from the digital cameras with which they were taken after Chen uploaded them to computers. None of the four women received copies.

Chen said either he or his driver would remain present when the machines were taken for maintenance and he never left the machines in the shop overnight with one exception.

Chen said he believed the pictures were stolen during a repair in 2006.

"They invaded my privacy and stole my things in a very direct way," he said.

The naughty picture scandal smashed Chen’s entertainment career in Hong Kong. He announced an early retirement from the local industry last year.

Sze, who doesn’t have criminal record, is on bail. If convicted, he could spend up to five years in jai. The trial at Kowloon City Magistracy will continue today. Sixteen witnesses have been called. The trial is expected to last for ten days.

The pictures showed Chen in compromising positions with celebrities including Canto-pop star Gillian Chung, actress Cecilia Cheung and former actress Bobo Chan.

Edison appeared in Singapore on Sunday (April 5) to promote his movie "The Sniper".

Wanbao reports that he lashed out at reporters from a local news website when they asked him about his father’s bankruptcy, saying "I don’t know why people won’t think that I will help my family. What makes you think that I am not helping my family?"

His appearance came less than a month after a Hong Kong television station received an anonymous letter packed together with a gold bullet warning Chen to stay away from public events if he valued his life.

Edison is a good example of how arrogance can ruin a person’s life.

Chow Yun Fat Admits to Plastic Surgery

Chow Yun Fat (54) admitted in a TV interview, while in Seoul, South Korea to promote Dragonball: Evolution, that he has had plastic surgery. He said:

"As I grew older, my eyelids began to droop. I began going for cosmetic surgery in Hong Kong when I was filming The God Of Gamblers in 1989. If you go to Hong Kong for cosmetic surgery, I can introduce you to the doctor. He’s cheap and good."

Chinese Olympic Gymnasts Underage Scandal

Two Chinese Olympic Gymnasts He Kexin and Jiang Yuyuan, who won gold medals in the Beijing 2008 Olympics, may in fact be only 14 years-old, when Olympic gymnasts are required to be 16 years-old. Both were chosen to compete late in July. Younger, and therefore smaller, gymnasts have the advantage of being able to perform difficult skills easier. There is a lot of evidence supporting claims that documents were forged around the time of the Olympics to insure He and Jiang qualified to compete. However, there is a lot of evidence, especially from Chinese government web sites, and statements from government officials confirming the claims these two athletes were under the age of 16. If these accusations are true, it cheapens how the world sees China, and causes a loss of face due to the perception that they cheated their way to gold medals. To encourage the best athletes to compete, it might be best for the Olympic committee to allow any age to compete. Click the link below to read more, and see some of the evidence.

Two female Chinese gymnasts, including a gold-medal favorite, might be too young to participate in the upcoming Beijing Olympics.

Several online records and reports show He Kexin, the host nation’s top competitor on uneven bars, and Jiang Yuyuan might not yet be 16, the minimum age for Olympic eligibility. Both were chosen for China’s team last week.

On the Web site of the Chengdu Sports Bureau — Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China — a file dated January 2006 shows He Kexin as being born Jan. 1, 1994.

Most recently, a May 23 story in the China Daily newspaper, the official English-language paper of the Chinese government, had He Kexin’s age as 14.

The newspaper story begins: "The 14-year old newcomer to the national team, who was recruited last year, has raised a lot of eyebrows recently after she broke two world records on the uneven bars in as many months."

The New York Times raised questions about the athletes’ ages in a story Saturday. And Chinese officials provided the newspaper with copies of passports indicating both gymnasts are 16.

But in a speech on Nov. 3, 2007, in the central city of Wuhan, Liu Peng, director of general administration of sport for China, said: "The 13-year-old uneven-bar gymnast He Kexin, who defeated national team athlete Yang Yilin — she just won the bronze medal in the world championships — has demonstrated her ability."

To be eligible for the Cities Games where Liu made his remarks, Chinese documents show athletes must be over 13, but under 15.

Zhang Peiwen, spokesman for the Chinese Gymnastics Association, told China’s state-run Xinhua news agency that both gymnasts were over 16.

"Our Olympic squads were recently named and we registered their ages according to their ID cards or other legal certificates presented by their regional gymnastics associations, which show they all are over the minimum age for the Olympics," Zhang said.

Zhang questioned the credibility of data found on the Internet or in newspapers.

"There is a lot of online information and reports," he said. "We haven’t got the time to check every piece, but everybody knows not all of them are reliable."

The New York Times reported International Gymnastics Federation officials acknowledged questions about He’s age had been raised and asked the Chinese for clarification in May.

"We heard these rumors, and we immediately wrote to the Chinese gymnastics federation," Andre Gueisbuhler, the secretary general of the international federation, told the newspaper. "They immediately sent a copy of the passport, showing the age, and everything is OK. That’s all we can check.

"As long as we have no official complaint, there is no reason to act, if we get a passport that obviously is in order."

The American and Chinese women are expected to battle for the team gold medal when the Beijing Games begin Aug. 8.

He is one of the few athletes in the world who has scored more than a 17 under the new scoring system. Using He and Yang Yilin, who also has scored a 17 on bars, the Chinese hope to use the uneven bars to build up a big advantage in the team competition.

The Americans, who won the 2007 world championships team title, have only one gymnast, Nastia Liukin, who has achieved a 17 on bars.

If gymnasts He and Jiang are under age, it would be yet another black eye for China in the buildup to the games.

In June, Chinese swimmer Ouyang Kunpeng and coach Feng Shangbao were permanently banned from the sport after Ouyang tested positive for anabolic steroids. Wrestler Luo Meng and his coach also were barred for life for a doping violation by the athlete.

The Chinese government is working feverishly to present a positive image of an open, friendly, progressive nation.

But visa restrictions, air pollution, freedom of the press issues and a problem-filled torch relay have presented a far different image to the world.

Beijing Olympic Scandal Over Lip Synching Girl

The Chinese government is being criticized for replacing a Chinese girl at the Olympics opening ceremony in Beijing with another Chinese girl who was better looking, and for mixing in CGI fireworks with real fireworks.

Lin Miaoke (left) lip-synched at the opening ceremony over the voice of Yang Peiyi (right), who was considered visually unsuitable to appear herself because of her buck teeth, so only her voice was used. The Chinese rep said:

"The main consideration was the national interest. The child on the screen should be flawless in image, in her internal feelings, and in her expression. In the matter of her voice, Yang Peiyi was flawless, in the unanimous opinion of all the members of the team."

"We have a responsibility to face the audience of the whole country, and to be open with this explanation. We should all understand it like this, it is a question of the national interest. It is a question of the image of our national music, our national culture."

"Especially at the entrance of our national flag, this is an extremely important, an extremely serious matter."

"So we made the choice. I think it is fair to both Lin Miaoke and Yang Peiyi, after all, we have a perfect voice, a perfect image and a perfect show, in our team’s view, all together."

Yang Peiyi is said to have reacted well to the disappointment. Peiyi said:

"I am proud to have been chosen to sing at all."

That is what a report quoted the little girl as saying, but we all know she would rather have been onstage herself.

In China, putting on the best face, is the best way to save face.
