Avril Lavigne is being sued by The Rubinoos who claim her song "Girlfriend" was stolen from their song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend." The record company may end up settling the suit anyways, since it might cost them even more to successfully defend. Although this isn’t the first time Avril has been accused of stealing. Last month, singer Chantal Kreviazuk accused Avril of stealing a song title. Additionally, the writer of "Sk8er Boi" says Lavigne shouldn’t be listed on the credits since all she did was "change a word here or there."

Now we have a video comparison of Rubinoos performing "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" and Avril performing "Girlfriend." You decide if Avril ripped-off Rubinoos’ song. When I compared them the first word that came to my mind was GUILTY!

We reported yesterday that Avril Lavigne was accused of stealing a song, and now she is being sued for allegedly copying another hit song Girlfriend. Here’s more:

Canadian punk princess Avril Lavigne is being sued by U.S. songwriters who claim that her smash hit `Girlfriend’ sounds suspiciously like a track they took up the charts in the 1970s.

Lavigne’s manager, Terry McBride, says the pop starlet is one of several people named in a lawsuit filed July 2 that alleges striking similarities to the Rubinoos song `I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend.’

The group’s founder, Tommy Dunbar, filed the suit in California’s Northern Federal District Court and also names Lavigne’s publishing company Avril Lavigne Publishing and Lavigne’s songwriting partner Dr. Luke as defendants.

McBride says from Vancouver that the claim is baseless, noting that a musicologist he hired to study both tracks has deemed them completely different songs.

Still, McBride, also CEO of Nettwerk Music Group, admitted that he is considering settling the suit out of court if the costs of defending the case prove too high.

The suit comes on the heels of a jab at Lavigne by fellow Canuck songstress Chantal Kreviazuk, who recently suggested to Performing Songwriter magazine that Lavigne stole one of her songs for the disc `The Best Damn Thing.’

Avril Lavigne has been accused several times of working with another artist, then after stealing a song or two, never working with that person again. Chantal Kreviazuk is the latest to accuse Lavigne of stealing her music in a Performing Songwriter interview:

Performing Songwriter: We just did a story with Avril Lavigne, whom you wrote with…

Chantal: I find it funny that it’s in Performing Songwriter. I mean, Avril, songwriter? Avril doesn’t really sit and write songs by herself or anything. Avril will also cross the ethical line, and no one says anything. That’s why I’ll never work with her again. I sent her a song two years ago called â€œContagious,â€ and I just saw the track listing to this album (The Best Damn Thing) and there’s a song called â€œContagiousâ€ on itâ€”and my name’s not on it. What do you do with that?

Performing Songwriter: Call the lawyers?

Chantal: See, I won’t do that. I’ll just tell you. Art should not be subject to that kind of controversy. Art should be pure. In my head it is, anyway.

Maybe Chantal hasn’t heard. Art doesn’t feed your kids unless someone pays for it.
