star trek Star Trek Review

I saw Star Trek on Sunday. I have seen all the previous Star Trek movies, but this one didn’t grab my interest, so I wasn’t going to see it. There were no expectations going into this movie, so this review can be completely objective.

Hollywood has been on a sequel, remake, and prequel binge. This Star Trek is a prequel. With J.J. Abrams directing there is a lot of action, but sometimes with J.J. the story can be lacking to give more time for action, which this one did, but it wasn’t a negative this time around. Spock has turned out to be the character who ties together the story from the future to this story which is from the past where the characters originate. Leonard Nimoy, who played the original Spock, was the only original character to appear in this movie. Zachary Quinto, from heroes, did a fantastic job of playing Spock in the new movie.

Lesser known Anton Yelchin, who also appears in the upcoming Terminator Salvation, played a fantastic Pavel Chekov. Everyone in this movie was great.

Probably the best part of the movie was the humor tied into the story. Despite seeing the movie late on the fourth day after the release the audience laughed when there was a funny part, smiled during many parts of the movie, and clapped at the end, yes clapped, which is very rare.

This Star Trek was much better than the opening $79 million figure reflects. The sequel to the prequel should get much bigger numbers, and a cult following as all other Star Trek movies have.

winona ryder 1 Winona Ryder Joins Star Trek Cast

J.J. Abrams new Star Trek movie due out Christmas Day of 2008 has a new cast and crew member, Winona Ryder. Young Spock will be played by Zachary Quinto, and his mother will be Winona. This makes a lot of since Winona is looking old an haggard, which is also the reason I didn’t post the screen caps of her topless scene that hit the web the other day. Other cast members include the original Spock Leonard Nimoy, Eric Bana, Chris Pine, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Zoe Saldana, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood, and Rachel Nichols. Not slated to make even a cameo is William Shatner who played Captain James T. Kirk in the original series and movies. About ten years ago Kirk was killed, but he needs to be brought back to life. This Star Trek is written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. The film revolves around the Starfleet Academy days of the crew of the Starship Enterprise when there were wild parties, and naked chicks running around naked in the halls.
