Stephen King Speaks Out on Twilight Author

Stephen King told USA Today that Twilight isn’t very well written:

"Both JK Rowling and Meyer, they’re speaking directly to young people. … The real difference is that [Harry Potter author] Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and [Twilight author] Stephenie Meyer can’t write worth a darn. She’s not very good."

Like duh! Fortunately for Meyer her adolescent audience cares more about the romantic aspect of the story, than the quality of the writing.

I think Meyers general hatred for the American peoples is an obvious low-point, for me, but Americans don’t go for this genre, anyhow, so, I would guess they’re sparing themselves by not reading and participating in it.

I read the first Twilight book, and to be honest, I didn’t hate it, but it definitely didnt intrigue me to read more because I find the plot is like a bowl of thin gruel… the romance is far-stretched and there’s no real substance beyond that. You know even in a fantasy, there should be that substance of realness in characters that connects readers with the story? I didn’t feel it, the romance is almost beyond belief and just seems like a manipulation on the author’s part with some scenes of seduction to distract the readers from how empty it is. I wouldn’t say Meyer is a horrible writer, her style’s okay; but she just seems to lack a lot of humor in her story to me. Feel free to disagree with me on this, but this is what I feel.
