Star Trek Review

I saw Star Trek on Sunday. I have seen all the previous Star Trek movies, but this one didn’t grab my interest, so I wasn’t going to see it. There were no expectations going into this movie, so this review can be completely objective.
Hollywood has been on a sequel, remake, and prequel binge. This Star Trek is a prequel. With J.J. Abrams directing there is a lot of action, but sometimes with J.J. the story can be lacking to give more time for action, which this one did, but it wasn’t a negative this time around. Spock has turned out to be the character who ties together the story from the future to this story which is from the past where the characters originate. Leonard Nimoy, who played the original Spock, was the only original character to appear in this movie. Zachary Quinto, from heroes, did a fantastic job of playing Spock in the new movie.
Lesser known Anton Yelchin, who also appears in the upcoming Terminator Salvation, played a fantastic Pavel Chekov. Everyone in this movie was great.
Probably the best part of the movie was the humor tied into the story. Despite seeing the movie late on the fourth day after the release the audience laughed when there was a funny part, smiled during many parts of the movie, and clapped at the end, yes clapped, which is very rare.
This Star Trek was much better than the opening $79 million figure reflects. The sequel to the prequel should get much bigger numbers, and a cult following as all other Star Trek movies have.

I loved it. One of the best prequels in a long time.
NOW, TravelGayle, think you need to get a life if a couple of product placements bothered you that much.
Did they bother you as much as Spock kissing Uhura.
Are you a real trekkie? It is cast in an earlier time so, yes they would have some products. I really don’t think these two companies care if they don’t get anything from you. You probably never used their products anyway.
I was really pissed off to see product placement in this recent of my long-cherished Star Trek shows. Loved the movie, but RESENTED seeing Nokia and hearing about Budweiser. What a huge violation of this much beloved product-free space-time continuum. How RUDE!!!! Even if those two corps were big sponsors, they’ll get NOTHING from me for interfering in one of my favorite alternative universes, where only INVENTED products are welcome. Corporate JERKS, who made this heinous decision: how crass can you be? How insulting to intelligent and creative trekkies. That’s the kind of crap you put in movies for less discerning, reflexive-shopper-mentality audiences. Took me right out of the theater at that moment. HURT the escape, big time. Gene R would have despised that commercial intrusion, too, I’m sure. DISGUSTING, Nope-kia and Budstupider.
