Shorty Rossi Served 10 Years in Prison for Attempted Murder
Shorty Rossi, aka Melvin Rossi, who is the star of the Animal Planet show Pit Boss, spent 10 years in prison for attempted murder for his role in a gang related shooting in Los Angeles in 1988. Rossi started serving his sentence in 1989 and served a total of 10 years.
Rossi hasn’t tried to hide his past, in fact he talks about how he has turned his life around by making positive choices.
All it takes to have a good life is to make the right choices, which includes choosing the right people to surround yourself with.
I adopted my first pit mix in 2010, never realized or knew anything about them being so stereotyped. My girl is awesome, loving & smart. She acts tough sometimes in the pen if someone walks by, growls, barks & bristles up but that’s normal for most dogs. I only had lab mixes before & they were TOO nice! lol I think Shorty has a heart of gold for the pitties maybe not so much for people, or else it’s just hard for him to show it. I do think he expects a bit much out of his staff at times, esp now that Ashley left. I can understand her not being able to handle the stress, but i had a gut feeling about this new job she’s at, that Sid just seems like a slimy, sneaky character. I don’t think she meant to cause a problem like was shown on tonite’s show. I hope Shorty can forgive her. They’ve all been friends for too long. I love Shorty’s heart, i really do, but i think he should seek counseling for his anger issues, even tho i don’t think he wants to admit it. But i am a huge fan of the show & love everyone involved in the saving of these beautiful souled dogs. Keep up the great work, Shorty.
Is this Shorty’s personal blog? I do not think so but I see people asking for Jobs and advice on how to take care of their doggy problems. I doubt he even looks at this website. It is basically a Hollywood gossip site. If you need to communicate with him I am sure you can find contact info on the TV Network Website.

All dogs are made to be wild it is humans that have made the animals tame and it is humans that have made animals vicious, Guaranteed if it was people making Labradors vicious than you would say the same thing about them and pittys would be the angel breed because of people treating these animals badly they have got a bad name and that’s not fair to categorize a breed of dog just because some people Are wankers try watching pit bulls and parolees the shows a eye opener
Well they are made domestic, and grew up with people, and weren’t “made” to kill and breeded. They along with all other domestic dogs were made to obey, and if they were treated right (which pitbulls who arent treated right are abused become vicious which gave them a bad reputation and taken advantage of) they should obey.
shorty is interesting and no longer a loser but still a frustrated ego. seems the problems with his family are primarily his genesis. his parents may have not been able to adequately handle a troubled and likey tormented son but he seems to get his drive from holding on to grudges. did he actually believe his father didn’t want to guide him through his early troubles?
shorty’s treatment of his staff is amazing. his inability to aknowledge he was wrong toward ronald is almost hilarious. seb is too tolerant of his constant dictator style. he does’t understand that shortywood comes across patterned after the prison system he spent 10 years absorbing.

hi Shorty, me and you are virtually opposites in our looks, background, and gender lol but we are very similare in our gaols and misstakes. You endangerd the lives of people, I endangerd the lives of animals. We know your story so hear is mine. I have always loved animals and when I would see them on the street I would feel ashamed that I wasn’t doing anything for them, I wanted to help. So I would take them home and try to find them homes but in the end I would call the animal police guy and he would take them to the pound. I thought they would be safe there and that somwone would come and adopt them, I didn’t know that it was the animal equivalent of jail. Im so sorry, because of me they could be dead or they might still be there just waiting like the pitts I saw on your show, I think of them and I see you. If I had known then what I know now, I know that I would still have tried to save them but I would have tried to find someone like you, someone who cares about what happens to them. I am going to bootcamp on july 5th and then I will be stationed in San Deiego were I will be serving in the NAVY for 4 years. It’s along time in the future but maybe when I get out I could apply for a job? I know Im not a little person, im actualy 5’11”, but I know I could help! I wouldn’t be doing it for the money or out of guilt, I want to make a difference for once. Im graduating Highschool in June and Im still pretty young and naive but the NAVY will toughen me up and I’ll be smart enough to help. I know things are hard for you right now, but I don’t want you to give up ok? EVER. I love animals and i like pitts and cats especialy, you reminde me of both in a way, your srong, stocky, and you never give up like a pitt bull, but your smart, kinda sneaky, indapendent, and it takes you a wile to let people know that care and like them like a cat. Never change YOU ok? Be safe and take care of your self, because we need more people like you in the fight against animal cruelty even if you only realy take on pitts. Maybe someday you’d be willing to take the chance on highering a crazy 18 year old cat lady?lol well a girl can dream. Good luck Shorty.

I love ur show, I have 2 pit bulls at the present time a female that looks like Hercules and a blue pit. They think they are human,they are inside dogs spoiled rotten. We all make mistakes and learn from them right.By the way I love pitbulls they very smart loveable dogs. I am a nurse and went to a patients house and damm if her little a$$ taco bell dog bite me. Dont trust little dogs at all .Thanks for everything you’ll do.

shorty is a good person who helps helpless dogs and he did time in jail and he’s learned his lesson so dont hate him just because he’s little and he’s done time in jail

i am a fan of Shorty’s and Pit Boss XL, and am proud of the positive changes he has made in his life, but i do have a question. The mug-shot has a date of 2-11-94. How is that possible if the arrest date is 1988 and the sentence began in 1989 and ran for 10 yrs?
The mug-shot probably has a date of 2-11-94 because prisoners often are transferred to different “houses” within a prison and the administration then takes an updated mugshot. Happened to me ;-)

Hmmmm… it doesn’t say it in the linked item, but in the HG feed summary, it says that he was imprisoned in 1989 and not released until 2009. How does a ten-year sentence take 20 years?
