Russia and Georgia At War
While Russian President Putin attended the Olympics opening ceremony, Russian troops attacked a break away Russian republic Georgia. Initial reports said there was an uprising in Georgia, but other reports say Russian troops simply attacked Georgia, and there were heavy casualties. Putin and President George Bush, who was also at the Olympic ceremony, had a brief discussion about the Russian attack.
It appears the raging war was timed to occur during the Olympics when all things are supposed to be peaceful.
