Oprah Winfrey says she weighed 160 pounds in 2006, but has gained 40 pounds ballooning her to a hefty 200 pounds. She said she is mad at herself for letting her weight gain again.

Rather than go into all of Oprah’s self loathing, and efforts to use her weight battle to get publicity, let me offer some advice to anyone who struggles with weight gain.

Gaining weight is a daily battle for a lot of people, and it must be treated like a disease that doesn’t go away, even for one day, and doesn’t give you a vacation on the holidays.

There are 3 ways to effectively control weight:

1) Control the amount you eat, how often, and when. Tip: Never eat late at night, unless it’s brocoli or something that won’t cause weight gain. Vanilla flavored Soy milk is a great way to curb hunger, because it’s loaded with protein which makes a person feel more full, without causing weight gain. Make sure you eat healthy food. It’s not okay to substitute unhealthy food like cake, for a real healthy meal. Sugar is converted to fat by many people who gain weight easily.

2) Aerobic exercise. Use a treadmill 30 to 60 minutes each day, or at least 3 to 4 times a week. If you don’t sweat during your workout, then you’re not burning much, if any, fat. Control how much, and what you eat, before and after the workout. Soy milk, and nuts like almonds, walnuts, or pistachios, before and after the workout can help keep hunger under control.

3) Read and follow the Glycemic Index. The best book on the market to help explain the Glycemic Index is called The New Glucose Revolution Life Plan. Read it, and follow it every day. If you get lazy you’ll gain weight again. (HG gets nothing if you buy this book.)

If Oprah followed the three guidelines above her weight would remain under control, but her problem, like so many of us, is a lack of self-control.

The guidelines above will help you lose weight, keep your weight under control, help diabetics control their blood sugar and improve their circulation, and help prevent heart disease by keeping cholesterol and triglycerides under control. Another way to help those with high cholesterol would be to take Cholest Off from Nature Made. Cholest Off uses natural plant sterols and stenols to bind with cholesterol during meals, so the cholesterol doesn’t end up in your blood, and then in your arteries. Those with high cholesterol should eat very little meat, and when meat is eaten it should be only a handful amount of chicken, turkey, or fish. Fish oil should also be taken daily, since it helps with a lot of things, including decreasing high triglycerides. Adding ground Flax is also helpful in too many ways to discuss here.
