Olympics 2008 Monkey Movie

BBC Sports is using this Olympics 08-08-08 Monkey King movie for its marketing campaign. The movie is supposed to be based on traditional Chinese folklore Journey to the West. The animation and music were specially produced by Jamie Hewlett and Damon Albarn.

The Chinese readers I spoke with today said the animation is ugly, and insulting. What are your thoughts?

FYI: The number 8 is lucky in Chinese culture, so 8-8-2008 is the luckiest day of all. A lucky day to get married.

I’m Chinese from Singapore. I’m not too disturbed by it. It’s not exceptionally good but I don’t see why it’s insulting though.
