Miley Cyrus (17) made another music video for Miley’s single Who Owns My Heart, and it sparked even more outrage than the first. Tim Winter, president of the Parents Television Council, says her new video sends the wrong message to young fans.

"It is unfortunate that she would participate in such a s*xualised video like this one."

"It sends messages to her fan base that are diametrically opposed to everything she has done up to this point. Miley built her fame and fortune entirely on the backs of young girls, and it saddens us that she seems so eager to distance herself from that fan base so rapidly."

Mr. Winter might be missing the point here. Miley’s fans haven’t run away, but are buying her music, and idolizing her even more. Those innocent young girls are impressionable, and they will copy anything, and everything Miley does, so Miley isn’t "distancing herself" from her fan base at all. The real danger here is that Miley is programming these young girls to be young sluts, and this is made worse by the fact Miley is underage, but still has her parents’ approval for everything she does, even when Miley goes to 21 and over clubs, or bars, that serve primarily alcohol.

A girl that is "mature for her age," is growing up too fast, and headed for trouble without the guidance of a good parent, since her own judgment is not fully mature, which is why she is acting too mature in addition to a lack of parental guidance.

The best option for parents is to point out how bad Miley’s behavior is, and how much you disapprove, while encouraging and pointing out good behavior, like that of Taylor Swift. Kids will listen if you stay involved, and focus mostly on the positive.
