margaret cho lashes out at miley cyrus Margaret Cho Lashes Out at Miley Cyrus Racism

Margaret Cho wrote a song to summarize her feelings about Miley Cyrus and her racist Asian eyes picture:

Miley Cyrus made some chinky eyes
Standing behind an Asian guy
I don’t know if this should fly
As if there wasn’t enough to despise

I wasn’t necessarily a fan of
Her, her dad, or Hannah Montana
I tend to prefer the songs of Rihanna
Racism against Asians is simply bananas!

Oh Miley!
Chinky eyes make you look wily
prejudice isn’t thought of so highly
it doesn’t make us all smiley

Why is there nothing that Asians can do?
To make fun of other races as easily as you
Why isn’t racism against Asians taboo?
Why are we always so racially screwed!

All you have to do is pull at your face
To make your eyelids resemble our race
This kind of joke has no proper place
Miley Cyrus is a disgrace!

Miley seems to think she can get away with anything, but she forgets people aren’t going to just give her a pass when she acts inappropriately, because she’s a Disney star, which also makes her a role model. If she doesn’t like the job, she should quit.

Oh my god, everybody’s gone nuts! don’t you say that you haven’t put on silly faces like that ever.. now that miley cyrus is doing it, it is discrimination? so you think she didn’t notice that she is famous, and that people consider her to be a role model.. well believe me she knows! with that in mind do you think she would insult anybody! she wouldn’t even insult the one she hates the most cause the knows she’s a role model..
she’s a 16 year old girl, can she behave like one and just have some fun. if you don’t like her, then simply don’t and stop whining about it. If you meet people you don’t like, would you mind their business? NO! why would you now?
leave her alone with this kind of crap, the world already has gone crazy.. and these kind of people are making a fool out of themselves
its totally disrespectful to, in this case, miley who is doing “the Asian face” without bad intentions, but also to your own culture.. think about it, Margaret Cho and this Kim person are making a joke out of their country, cause we can’t do nothing more than laugh about those stupid insults towards Miley!
GET A LIFE, Gosh.. These days, people don’t have hobbies anymore..

  2. Clars says:

In itself, behaviour like that isn’t insulting, it was a joke, but one I hope they didn’t feel MORE entitled to do with an Asian in the room . I’m waiting for a time when differences, racial or otherwise, will be celebrated and references to someones race will no longer be considered an insult, just another individual characteristcic, like hair colour! It was only because of small minded insecure bigots hundreds of years ago who couldn’t understand anyone in anyway different to them that race became a derogatory weapon. For rough unimagainate people the race issue was the easiest and most obvious way to alienate, when a quick insult was “required”.

  3. Gary says:

Once again, I don’t think Miley was promoting anything other than being a ignorant teen doing a stupid stunt. That we have brought way to much attention to. I am American Indian and strongly know what it is like to be mocked and made fun of!!!
However, I have become very successful because I learned at a young age that it is more important to be proud of your race and worry more on what you do versus what others think. Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you deal with it.

Childhood is when our foundation is built, would you want this affecting little kids everywhere? Correct on the role model part, so if Miley cyrus can get away with making chinky eyes, can kids at school make chinky eyes or say “ching chong” at the asians and get away with it? Yes, they have, and I’ve experienced alot of these when I was growing up. It did hurt my self esteem and affected me in some way. Once, when I was about 15, a little African American boy followed me around Walmart, throwing a ball around, making remarks such as “CHing CHONG chen chiNESE girl” Is this not an issue?! I felt very offended because not only did I feel threatened, but I could not do anything about it. And Gary, are you saying this is okay? Is this little boy going to grow up thinking it’s okay to be racist against asians? Did his parents teach him any better? Is Miley Cyrus promoting this behavior?

  5. Gary says:

left a comment, guess HG did not think it was on point. That’s O.K. HG is pretty fair on these things.

  6. Gary says:

Leon – I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
But, I leave you with one thought on your statement about one race mocking another. It is not close to equal!! One name, Rev. Wright, only the right and Fox news came out as listing his statements/sermons as racist. I do not know your thoughts on this, but using your above debate, I would have to think you would agree he is racist.

  7. Skylar says:

Yeah people have done this before but the point of the whole matter is that she is a role model and it can be considered racist. Some people do sue others over racial slurs and jokes. Ive seen it done.

  8. Leon says:

Gary – USA did do some good but recently they’ve been doing lots of wrong. Iraq and Iran worst scenario worst than Vietnam.

I hope you know that these kids that torment other kids and making fun of lead to the consequence of Columbine shooting, Virgina Tech Shooting, and many more because of these stupid actions. This is why we have all these going on because certain types of people or kids have no respect for others. If another race were to mock another race of course the same issue would be raised. Another thing is that Miley Cyrus seems to be an role model icon for these young kids and my little cousins. She’s being inappropriate and being on TV and a role model for little kids you have this type of attitude no wonder other little kids show no respect to adults and others. How about this put yourself in a position where you walk up to the stranger and start cracking jokes about that person and his/her ethnicity and see what happens afterward. If our president Obama were to make a racist comment his behind will be definitely put on the papers and on the grill. Its simple as that and when you’re on TV you have lots of responsibility for what you say and actions that you take.

I was referring to Garry about the Miley Cyrus fan.

  9. Gary says:

Not sure which Gary you were referring to? I am far from being a Miley fan. I believe everybody has the equal right to succeed. I have numerous friends of different races. I just think some people take simple acts and blow them way out of proportion. If it was somebody of any other race and they were mocking a white person, would the same issues be raised? You don’t need to answer this, because everybody knows the answer. I am a parent and my son is 22 years old, he has done very well.
Leon – if it wasn’t for the USA getting involved in many of the worlds issues, there would be a bunch of goose stepping going on in much of Europe!!!
Bottom line is we had some KIDS acting as KIDS in an immature way and I do not think they meant any arm or malice by it. So get on with way more important things in the world.

  10. Leon says:

Asians are equally racist as other types of people on this planet. I don’t have to spend time in Asia to learn the language because I brought up into the culture and language. Reason to why people think those is because look at we Americans and how we treat others countries. America is showing off and thinking they’re big and bag and now look at the economy and the country itself. Its one big pile of F*ked up sh!t. And who are you implying to that is scared? So I take it Garry you’re a big time Miley Cyrus fan eh?

  11. Garry says:

Oh my God! Now if that isn’t the Kettle calling the Frying pan Black. Asians ARE the most racist people on the planet! Don’t beleive me? Learn the language, and go spend some time in Asia! You wouldn’t believe the crap that comes out of their mouths. Fat lazy ghost boy, white people are $h1t, etc etc. And then when you reply to them (In this case it was Chinese) they get as scared and appologize like there is no tomorrow! I’m not racist at all. I hate EVERYONE the same. If you are a good person I like you, if you’re a dick I hate you. Simple.

  12. Leon says:

Surprisingly Rebecca and Gary comment that this is a silly issue. What happens if Miley makes a black joke, she’ll probably get shot. Now asian jokes she think she can get away. We asians are more civilize but she’s a role model to the little kids. So racism is a good thing and both of you support it. Good Job at being racist. Getting plastic surgery to look like it doesn’t mean they’re mocking asians, they just wanted their eyes to look slanted. But the act that she did is a different story. The media and everyone takes the asian racist joke seriously and for example when the radio show on hot 97.1 with their tsunami song came out, people were getting sued and fired left and right at that station. I don’t know what kind of parents you guys will be or am. Approving what these kids are doing. I’m asian but it doesn’t mean that i’ll be getting that sum of money.

  13. Rebecca says:

Oh man you’re completely sick! Miley is not a racist, you freaking asians just want your money.

    Greedy people.

  14. Gary says:

OMG, who has not done the eye thing sometime in their life?? If a photo of me doing it got on the net, would they come after me? NO!!!! Is it racist?
Maybe in the right context. I have seen people get plastic surgery to look that way. Is that racist?
It was a group of immature kids acting as kids. Get over it and get a life!!!
