Justin Timberlake The Phone Reality TV Show

Justin Timberlake is the executive producer of a new reality TV game show called The Phone. Each episode will begin with two strategically placed cell phones ringing at opposite ends of a major metropolitan city. Once answered, a mysterious guide gives contestants five seconds to decide if they want to play the game.

If they accept, the competition begins, throwing the two contestants into an intense race, where they must communicate via cell phone to succeed.

The guide will also be communicating with the game players via cell phone, as a helicopter in the sky tracks their every move, exploit and error – with each failed task chipping away at the cash prize.

Based on a Dutch series, MTV said their version is “reminiscent of films like Bourne Identity, and The Game.”

According to MTV, which will premiere Timberlake’s The Phone on April 21 at 10 p.m., the tasks range from "hanging off the edge of Seattle’s Space Needle to racing into a burning building to save a man’s life."

To win the prize of $50,000, says the network, "the player’s loyalty, courage and morality are tested and their true nature is exposed when a surprise and shocking twist is revealed at the end of the game."

Tony Disanto, executive Vice President of programming and series development for MTV said:

“We’re turning the reality competition format on its head and plunging the contestants into a real life Bourne Identity, not just in the tone and creative, but also in terms of the visual style and pacing. Each week will be an action packed mini-movie. When you watch, your heart will pound as hard as the contestants. This is popcorn TV!”

A long time ago Ashton Kutcher had Timberlake on his show Punkd, where Timberlake thought his home, cars, and everything was being hauled off by the IRS for auction. All these years later Timberlake now could have a show bigger than anything Ashton has done. We await Ashton’s comment on the show.
