Jude Law Assaults Female Photographer

On July 22 Jude law exited Automat bar in London at 12:30 am, where photographers are always waiting to get a shot of celebrities. As Jude approached his car he push slapped one female photographer in the face. She said of the incident:
"He hit me full on the face, it was a real stinger, it was very sore."
A spokesperson for Law said:
"This is all nonsense. Last night’s incident was an accident."
"Jude was blinded by the camera flashes when he left the restaurant, raised his hand to shield himself and inadvertently struck somebody standing very close."
"He apologized and left. Pictures of this sort can often be misleading."
It didn’t look like an accident.

~Sorry to say, but I would slap paparazzi too…
Sorry, absolutely NO sympathy with the “paparazzi” in this or any of the other stories that seem so common these days. IMHO it is terribly WRONG to invade privacy & take ANYONEs pictures without their explicit permission.
The law needs to be changed on this – preferably yesterday – & stiff penalties enforced with zero-tolerance of any abuse whatsoever.
Professional photographers, & anyone/everyone else taking pictures of celebrities (or specifically of anyone else) for sale, profit or publication – anything but their own strictly private use – really needs to be properly licensed & insured, and in all cases submit the pictures to the celebrity (or private subject if the focus of the picture) before any sale, commercial use or publication is allowed.
No doubt there may be certain circumstances where that may not be possible, or ‘overriding public interest” concerns should allow otherwise (perhaps in the case of a fatal accident for example) but the overriding rule should be ‘NO’ – you absolutely cannot take – let alone male a profit from – someone else’s image without their explicit permission.
Bystanders in such pictures should have their faces, car numbers etc. “blurred out” as in the recent updates to “Google Street View”.
The paparazzi have become increasingly “in your face” of recent years, & their standard of decorum & etiquette when seeking a picture is definitely not what it used to be a generation or three ago. Had they set up their own professional organisation to check backgrounds, set professional exams & issue licenses, ensure uniform high standards, police & punish infringements in the way doctors, lawyers, architects etc do, for example, then it would not have come to the situation we have today.
This is an obvious time bomb waiting to go off, sooner or later someone is going to get seriously hurt or even killed. Or perhaps someone already has – Princess Diana’s unfortunate death was perhaps linked to attempts to avoid unwanted pursuit by paparazzi.
With the ready availability of cameras (including in phones) & increasing ease of instantly publishing to the web, it seems any Tom Dick or Harriet can label themselves a ‘freelance photographer’ & it seems in some cases with little or no formal instruction & certification into the high standards of courtesy & ethics required let alone paramount consideration being given to the safety & privacy of the subjects and the public.
It is high time we all pushed for proper legislation, licensing & monitoring to ensure a simple, straightforward code of conduct & decorum, and that strict compliance is observed.
