Joe Biden Supports Higher Taxes

Joe Biden, the Vice Presidential running mate of Barack Obama, said:

"Raising taxes is patriotic. We want to take money (from the rich), and put it back in the pocket of middle-class people. It’s time (for the rich) to be patriotic … time to jump in, time to be part of the deal, time to help get America out of the rut."

Joe Biden wants to be Robin Hood. Take money from the rich and give it to the poor, which is also a concept in socialist and communist teachings. In America we are all expected to work for what the get. The rich want to get richer so they provide jobs, and start businesses, which in turn grows our economy. The poor and middle class work those jobs, and look for opportunities to make themselves rich, or at least comfortable. If money needs to be returned to the American people, then perhaps congress should stop spending so much on entitlement programs, affirmative action which doesn’t reward the best qualified job candidates, and lower taxes in areas that affect the majority of Americans. We don’t need to raise taxes on the rich, we need to lower taxes for non-wealthy Americans. Congress takes and takes in taxes, then expects the successful Americans to pay more.

John McCain said:

"Raising taxes in a tough economy isn’t patriotic. It’s not a badge of honor. It’s just plain dumb."

In an economy that is slowing down after a period of growth, the surest way to cause that economy to collapse would be to raise taxes, which insures money flows out of the economy, and into the government treasury. The government has already taxed us heavily, and now they want to tax the rich even more, as if the slowing economy is their fault. The government needs to provide tax relief, and incentives for new businesses to startup and provides jobs, and growth.

How do you think we can get the economy growing again?

The terrorist didn’t retire. They are still in that caves of Afghanistan. So then tell me how going to war in Iraq is helping destroy them, or helping to limit their means of attacking the USA?

The most prominent actions President Bush has taken to prevent any further terrorist attacks is declaring war on Iraq.

However, THE IRAQ WAR IS NOT MAKING AMERICA SAFER. General Petraeus him self, the person who is one on the front lines in Iraq and who dictates back to washington what is happening there wont even admit it.

So how can you tell me that his actions are the reason why we haven’t been attacked since?

    ***HG says***

If the terrorists could attack us again they would. Bin Laden has issued one video after another saying they were going to attack us again, but each time we have stopped those attacks. The bottom line is this, whatever Bush is doing is working. We have not been attacked again, despite terrorists efforts, and that is a fact, which means we have been kept safer during the Bush administration.

  2. Mary says:

And Billy did so much the first time we were attached on US soil, right?

Rush was right, no point in debating with fools!

  3. Me says:

LOL… Sure there have not been an attack on American soil since 9/11. That could just be a coincidence. By all reports (I don’t have any links but you can google this) America is not anymore safe then we were 7 years ago. If you believe Bush is the reason why we haven’t had any more terrorist attack then I have some Lion repellant I can sell ya. Its guaranteed to reduce the chances of you getting mauled by 99%.

    ***HG says***

and I suppose you’d like us to all believe that the terrorists retired 7 years ago, and that’s why they haven’t tried attacking the United States again, and those news reports of how terrorist plots were foiled were just made up by the Right wing media.

  4. Mary says:

Everyone is so quick to blame Bush for everything wrong today. What about holding the Democratic Congress responsible for some of the mess? How have they made our lives better?
All I know is that there has not been an attach on US soil since 9/11. For me our nation’s security is the foremost responsibility of the President of the US. What good would debating over the economy, environment, or other issues if our very Freedom is not protected?

  5. Me says:

Very, very good point. NAFTA is definitely taking the jobs out of the hands of Americans.

However we need to weigh what our options are from here. McCain is NOT changing NAFTA, or any other import or outsourcing policy. If he becomes president (heaven help us) NOTHING WILL Change. What gets me is the fact that Obama has the best platform for just about every issue (unless your rich) and yet people are still willing to vote for him. And why? Lipstick on Pigs… Doubt seems to be out weighing logic.

  6. Me says:

Your heart and mind are in the right place, but your vote is on the wrong ticket.

Ronald Reagan’s tax breaks were successful. AT THAT TIME! The reason why his Trickle Down System worked so well is because the fundamentals of proper business ethics in America was strong. American Companies who employed AMERICAN citizens were given the opportunity to expand and hire more AMERICANS. If companies back then had the opportunities to hire illegal immigrants with low salaries and no guaranteed future, or were able to outsource the bulk for their work to other countries at a lower cost I’m not too sure it would have been quite as successful. The fact was Companies had no other choice BUT to hire more Americans if they wanted to expand. That is not the case today.

The truth is over the last 8 years the Gov’t has been giving companies the opportunity to expand through tax breaks on machinery, tax cuts on imported goods and tax cuts on out soured jobs. And not many of them have used that opportunity to create more American Jobs.

Now I see Small Businesses going out of business because they can’t compete with major companies who outsource to india and get a greater tax cut for it. It’s an extreme time, which calls for an extreme measure.

Those companies who have lavished at the expense of American jobs, and American products have to make good on their duty as American citizens to help replenish the economy. Go over the plans Obama wishes to institute. Small business and middle class workers will be the ones benefitting the most from it. EVERY independent analyst agrees.

Large Corporations and Millionaire CEOs MUST be punished for raping our economy by outsourcing jobs, and MUST be given an incentive to hire American works. Because only then, when it affects their profits, will they create more AMERICAN JOBS…

Although I believe McCain will be better for out economy I’m listening to your points, which are very informative.

There is another reason for the loss of American jobs … NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement). NAFTA was created in 1994 by the Clinton Administration and has caused many businesses and jobs to move to Canada and Mexico. Experts are mixed on whether the benefits have outweighed the loss of jobs and business for the United States.

I don’t think I would consider Wal-Mart a start up company from the Reagan era of the ’80’s considering it was started in’62 and has been incorporated since ‘69.
I guess I shoundn’t be suprised by the error, it’s normal for a conservative to misrepresent the truth.

    ***HG says***

Thank you for correcting my error. We can all learn a lot from each other.

  8. Me says:

Your ignorant… The reason for the death of the economy is the tax breaks for large corporations. You dumb repubs think that if we give more money, tax breaks and growth opportunities to the wealthy corporations then maybe in their good graces they will hire more American workers and help restore the economy. The fact is that just because you give large corporations more money DOES NOT mean that they will hire more AMERICAN workers. What it does is enable them to farm out more jobs overseas, and hire a cheap work force (i.e. Illegal immigrants). WHY CAN’T YOU SEE THAT????

I don’t know about you, but I can notice the effects of your “trickle down theory” just by looking down my street. I live in suburban America, and over the last 8 years I can see EVERYDAY HARD WORKING AMERICANS who have worked 9-5’s their whole life and who have lived next to me for the last 20 years being forced to relocated to a more rural, less expensive area (North Carolina) because of a failed economy.

And the the heck is __LongTerm__ ? Its everywhere…

P.S. Luv the site, but not your views…

    ***HG says***

You made a lot of valid points. When Ronald Reagan was President he gave tax breaks to allow start up companies to be created, which allowed great companies like Costco and Walmart to get their start. The lack of tax breaks is causing companies to outsource their labor overseas. Tax breaks that aren’t creating jobs, or encouraging innovation, and creation of new companies should be eliminated. We need to grow jobs and companies, not reward CEO bank accounts. The big corporations are not the problem, they provide the jobs. Greed in those corporations is the problem, and those responsible need to be prosecuted. Giving tax breaks that allow for more competition, and more jobs to be created in America would help a lot more than increasing taxes, which just takes more money out of Americans’ pockets. Corporations charge consumers more to avoid paying taxes, so taxing them more is really a tax on us.

  9. JL says:

So true. I’ve been saying this forever – Obama and his advisors need to take an Econ 101 course. Taxing small businesses and “wealthy” families is just going to make our current economic meltdown even worse. Not sure why the Obama supporters don’t see this…

  10. Funny, Clinton raised taxes and when he left we had a surplus. Then good ol’ W came in and like how he bankrupted every company he ran he bankrupted the U.S. and created a huge deficit. How do you lower taxes while we spend 10 billion a month on a war thats not going to accomplish anything and how do you payoff a deficit of this magnitude.

    ***HG says***

To broaden the time line a bit you need to talk about what Ronald Reagan did during his 8 year term. Reagan lowered certain taxes that allowed a huge number of new start up companies to be launched. In that list are companies you might recognize like Costco, and Walmart, among many others that are huge today, and still pumping money into our economy, as well as providing jobs. Reagan accomplished this plus spent Communist Russia into a collapse, all while fixing the economy that Jimmy Carter destroyed in his four year term.

Bill Clinton inherited an already growing economy thanks to Reagan, which allowed Clinton to raise taxes without dramatic effects on the economy.

The war effort in the middle east has been extremely expensive as you say, and I would have preferred to see Iraq’s oil be used to pay for their reconstruction, but instead American tax dollars were used, so no one can make the argument that the war was over oil, especially considering there is no oil in Afghanistan.

The economy still grew 16% with Bush as President, which was more growth that occurred while Clinton was president.

The current economic crisis had nothing to do with Bush. It had everything to do with home mortgage loans that everyone knew were the equivalent of junk bonds. A crash was going to happen, and now it has. Not long ago the democrat run Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae were investigated for fraud, and another democrat from Congress was put in charge of overseeing those companies, but he still said nothing to warn anyone of the coming downfall of both companies.

Historically both parties are to blame for the mortgage mess, and Bush can share that blame, but Bush is not the only person to blame. The mess started well before Bush became President. He inherited the mess, and didn’t fix it, and neither has any congress democrat or republican.

Raising taxes now will cause the economy to slow even further, and consumer spend will stop. We need to grow the economy to get out of this mess, and that can only be done with a lot of different strategies including tax breaks for start up companies.
