Jimmy Chamberlin has decided to leave the Smashing Pumpkins. Chamberlin played on all the band’s albums since joining the band in 1988, except for Adore in 1998.

Billy Corgan made the announcement on the Smashing Pumpkins website, and says he will "continue to write and record as Smashing Pumpkins."

The band broke up in 2000, and Corgan and Chamberlin played together in a their newly formed band Zwan, but later re-formed the Smashing Pumpkins in 2005, and released an album called Zeitgeist in 2007.
