Janina San Miguel Was Nervous
Janina San Miguel was a 17 years-old beauty pageant contestant from the Philippines. At first she said she was very confident, but after she had to answer a question she admitted she was really nervous. It may sound funny to some to hear a Filipina speak, but for some reason I think Filipinas have the voices of angels. It’s just my thing. In fact I like how most Asian girls talk. Janina really handled the pressure very gracefully. She’s great.
Janina did win.

What a joke! She makes us Filipinos living in English-speaking countries look like idiots. We are already trying to pierce through enough stereotypes as it is and they had to make this dumb girl the winner? I don’t care if she’s only 17, I was speaking English fluently at that age and I was born and raised in a northern province in the Philippines.The judges should have know better than to choose this kind of person to represent Filipino WOMEN, what a bad move! And people saying she was being herself is a bunch of bull. If she wanted to be herself then she should have spoken with her native tongue. So what if she didn’t answer the question in English? We need to preserve our language too because that in itself is rich in history! Man oh man, this will be such a shame. We are now the world’s laughing stock. She will have a VERY RUDE awakening!
the thought of her representing the philippines on the miss universe gives me goosebumps, and not in a good way. stupid, stupid girl. stupid. did i already say that she’s stupid?

She’s not stupid, she just don’t to how to express herself in English… Let’s give the girl a break, it’s not her fault that she won in that compettion.
she’s cool. I AM A LEGEND II. lol. help her GOD. i dunno./ i dunno what to say! waaaaaaaaaaaaaa. i want to shout. she’s so funny. and the judges are really booboo as her. my GOD. MAYBE THE JUDGES AND JANINA HAVE THE SAME THOUGHTS. THAT’S WHY THEY LET HER WIN. LIFE IS MAYBE? HAHA
the stupidest person i have ever heard or seen on philippine television. i cant believe that she actually won!!! what a disgrace! what were the judges thinking anyway?? shame on you, janina. just the thing we wanted, to be a laughingstock of the world! the thought of her representing the philippines on the miss universe gives me goosebumps, and not in a good way. stupid, stupid girl. stupid. did i already say that she’s stupid?
I think the question here is: if the question was given in Filipino.. and if she was allowed to answer in Filipino, would she have answered with more sense?
“i find that flips have the worse sounding accent next to veit ppl. so i hvae to disagree that they sound like angels.” -> EXCUSE ME!!! Not all flips are like her…and so what, if our accent is bad? it aint our mother tongue.
it’s sad to see Filipinas being bashed this way, but i have to say, she did murder that question. she ought to have just answered in Filipino (I think she’s smart enough to have sensible ideas), then, after winning, she ought to get a really good coach to prepare her for the international competition. we’re all so caught up with the idea that speaking English gives a sense of superiority that we tend to forget the beauty of our own national language. what prevented her from answering in Filipino?
Her winning reflects how pitiful the situation of the philippines. Its quite obvious that she’s the worst choice for that title but she managed to win due to some corrupt practices usually common in the philippine government. She’s another loss for the country.

I cannot believe she won! It was so darn funny and was so darn frustrating at the same time.. Janina had the guts alright but *sigh*.. She embarrased not only herself but all filipinos.. I hope to God that she wont be answering like that in Miss World.. I suggest she brings along an interpreter to the international pageant..

Once again Filipinos criticizing their own countryman for not being able to speak proper English with another improper English criticism. Want an example? Chris’ “it should not supposed to happen like in a biggest event like Binibining Pilipinas Pageant.” Filipino English mostly start with the terms BASICALLY, ACTUALLY and ANYWAYS in order to sound smart or to try to initiate a conversation. Good God!

Flips have the worse-sounding accent? Wow, that was intense! How about Americans can’t even speak another foreign language?! All they speak is English and they still suck with their grammar, spelling, sentence construction and logic. How’s that? At least “FLIPS” can speak English one way or the other… while Americans can’t speak diddily squat!!! While I do agree with Janina’s inescapable tottering in answering that question, I think that could be worked on, but pity is to the one (GL) who hastily typecasted Filipinos having the worse accent next to the Viets when he can’t even spell his words right.
Janina is over confident..over confident can kill and it did to her.
Janina is capable of joining the pageant but not this time. She needs extensive trainings and workshops. With a fantastic coach she will make it.
The coronation night seems like a carnibal. and honestly it should not supposed to happen like in a biggest event like Binibining Pilipinas Pageant.
When I heard the radio announcer criticizing her. I thought it was just a little mistake..I am curious so I watched the you tube.
Not only the english grammar…it is the content of her answers. the way she say it. she said “you know guys…and giggles at the q & a of the PAGEANT.
She really needs a good coach.

This is a huge embarrassment. Clearly, she cannot speak in straight english. She should have answered in Filipino to save herself from embarrassment. What is beauty without brains? Her answer was even nonsense.
She is the worst of all the Bb. Pilipinas’ winners ever! I have never expected that a college student like her wouldn’t be able to answer such easy question; my 9-yr-old niece could surely answer that… And besides, what did the judges think when then chose that Janina San Miguel as the Bb. Pilipinas-World titlist?!! I guess that they were just blinded by her beauty…*Anyway, I don’t think that she is that stunning at all.* Shame on her and shame on the judges who made such dumb girl win!
I am proud that I’m a Filipino but then, this girl may ruin more my country’s image if she continues her being dumb on the Ms. World Pageant! T___T
