I agree with DeeDee !
I strongly agree with "Bioligical or not, parents are more than an egg and a sperm."
I THINK that there SHOULD BE a way that Docotors could get the genetic father`s medical files legally.OR,the sperm donor should be healthy at first, right?

Guys, stop judging people & stop fighting...

there's NO right-wrong, good-bad things in this world..what is good for me doesn't mean that it's good for you right? vice versa.

you can't really say that something is just wrong..
It's everybody's choice and I'm sure whoever we are, whatever our decisions (esp if it's a long-term thing) we'd thought about it carefully because we know that our decisions will go back to our lives after all..I'm sure nobody wants to mess up their own future, the key is just be responsible with your decision.

And anyway, I'm living in the NL now..gay & straight people has the same rights, they're really living together here. They DON'T attack each other like in the US (and I just don't know why)

and let me give you the real example here (it really is happen here, it's my friend's story):
There's a 6 years old boy found out from his elder friends that his 15 years old sister is a lesbian but he didn't know what "lesbian" means so he asked his mom. His (ok..their) mom was surprised when he asked her "mom, what lesbian means?" because he was just 6 years old..

and his mom just explained that lesbian means if you're a girl then you love another girl, the same way as I love your dad..And he asked whether it's OK and his mom said yes, absolutely. Then finally that boy told his mom that his sister (my friend) is a lesbian. And nothing changes...they're Ok..my friend always introduce her gf to everyone here & to her family..it's just the same like hetero couple..

It really is OK, just wait for the result..what's gonna happen in the next 10 years. Well, Melissa E is doing really well with her children tough...so I guess they're gonna be just fine:) and plus! I'm only 19 years old Indonesian girl and I DON'T judge people. you should shame of yourselves if you're 20 or 30 something and still having those "old-school" thoughts.

I disagree with you, a child needing to know of their biological parents in any case is wrong. Had that parent been a harm to that child, why would it be neccessary to introduce that parent to that child if they would only cause harm. I agree what that the fact that the gay community are attacking everyone is wrong but to say that it's wrong for chidlren to not know who their "real" parents are is ignorant. Your real parents are the people who love, nurture, raise and care for you. Your parents are the people who have always been there for you since day one. Bioligical or not, parents are more than an egg and a sperm.

Moderator response:

If the child's safety is an issue, then of course preventing contact with that parent is reasonable. Safety has not been mentioned as an issue in most cases, and certainly not with Tammy's children, rather it has been an issue of parental rights, while ignoring a child's birth right to know a parent under reasonable circumstances. I agree that a real parent is more than just biological. A child wonders why they are the way they are physically, and behaviorally, and knowing both parents helps them answer questions they have about themselves that leads to self awareness. It should be encouraged for a child to know both parents whenever reasonably possible. It's not just about what the parents want, it's what is best for the child. There are also medical problems that can be inherited, and a child should know both their parents' medical history to better manage their own health. Deliberately preventing a child from knowing both parents, when it is reasonable, is simply wrong.
