I think you’re daft. Incest is stigmatized because of the probability for birth defects. It’s sad that that doesn’t seem to register for you as the main reason why incest is wrong. As far as Thomas Beattie goes, crazy/odd/damaged people have babies everyday. For all we know, the environment in which her baby grows up could end up being more supportive and nurturing than the environment in which you or I have. You completely miss points.

i have been a reader of this site for some time now and am absolutely blown away by what i’ve just read.
incestual relationships and relationships involving transgender individuals are apples and oranges. i am not a supporter of thomas beatie and am, frankly, tired of hearing about him but i cannot begin to comprehend the comparison between his situation and incest. i realize the point of the argument/comparison is the children that have resulted or will result from the relationships but i find the comparison disturbing and dangerous.
furthermore, i reject the notion that the child will suffer “development difficulties from not breast feeding.” yes, it is a fact that breast milk is the optimal choice, but there are countless mothers who, for one reason or another, choose not to breastfeed and their children do not suffer as a result.

This seems like a straight forward case of attention seeking behaviour on both couple’s part. Not to mention, both couples appear to have benefitted financially for their 15 min in the spotlight.
The Australian couple previously had a child that died of congenital defects (high risk in cases of incestual coupling), so they knowingly took another gamble with the second child’s health that was not necessary.
It is not our business who folks choose to sleep with. But it is selfish to introduce children with a high risk of ongoing health issues when the world is struggling with an exploding population. Funny how you need a license to own a dog, but anyone can have a child…

dont you think it is hypocrisy as well, that you are a man as well who sin? why single out problems like this when a straight couple even commit mistakes in taking care of their children… do all non-incest straight relationship raise up their children perfectly?
well, if one think that this kid’s life has been devastated already, can you think WHO really DESTROYED this child’s life, is it the PARENTS who MAY or MAY not love them purely, or the SOCIETY?
People who is disgusted and look at something that many of us consider as wrong and then judge, then that is hypocrisy…
the child has already been born and you can’t undo what has been done, so rather than saying this child will be made fun of for the rest of her life, teach your own kids to accept that this kid is no different than anyone else who deserves respect from everyone!

I think this is a very logical, neat and clear explanation.
The hypocrisy is obvious and ironic. Especially seeing how those gay bloggers jump to be “fighters of moral” in this situation. The moral is bad when it is against you, but it is good when you agree with it. Come on!
I think the issue here should not be about what is “normal” or not. As you see, what is normal changes from the point you are looking at it. But if there is a third party-the child- involved, who does not have anything to say about her future and will most likely be affected because of these people’s behaviour; then there is something wrong. They do not have the right to devastate someone’s life, that someone can not do anything for.
Again, very well explained. I will be following up your blog from now on.
