edison-press-conference Edison Chen Apologizes and Leaves Hong Kong Entertainment

Edison Chen finally returned to Hong Kong and held a press conference at 3 pm in Kowloon World Trade Centre. Edison apologized in English to the girls involved in the naughty pic scandal surrounding him, and to all of Hong Kong, where the public is outraged. Edison said he will be away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry for an "indefinite period," he said "there is no time frame." This means Edison plans to work in Hollywood in the USA, and will return to Hong Kong entertainment once people move on from this scandal. He said he will do volunteer work while he clears his mind, which means he will be trying to rehabilitate his image with the public. The full statement Edison read is below:

Today I have come back to Hong Kong to stand before you and account for myself. I have never escaped from my responsibility. During the past few weeks, I have been with my mother and my family and my loved ones to show support and care and at the same time to have them support and care for me.

I admit that most of the photos being circulated on the Internet were taken by me. But these photos are very private and have not been shown to people and are never intended to be shown to anyone. These photos were stolen from me illegally and distributed without my consent.

There is no doubt whoever obtained these photos have them uploaded on the Internet with malicious and deliberate intent. This matter has deteriorated to the extent that society as a whole has been affected by this. In this regard, I am deeply saddened. I would like now to apologize to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused and the problems that have arisen from this. I would like to apologize to all the ladies and to all their families for any harm or hurt that they have been feeling. I am sorry. I would like to also apologize to my mother and my father for the pain and suffering I have caused them during the past few weeks. Most importantly, I would like to say sorry to all the people of Hong Kong. I give my apology sincerely to you all, unreservedly and with my heart.

I know young people in Hong Kong look up to many figures in our society. And in this regard, I have failed. I failed as a role model. However, I wish this matter will teach everyone a lesson. To all the young people in our community, let this be a lesson for you all. This is not an example to be set for you.

During my time away, I have made an important decision. I will whole-heartedly fulfill all commitments that I have to date. But after that, I decided to step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry. I have decided to do this to give myself an opportunity to heal myself and to search my soul. I will dedicate my time to charity and community work within the next few months. I will be away from Hong Kong entertainment industry indefinitely. There is no time frame.

I have been assisting the police since the first day the photos were published and I will continue to assist them. After this press con., I have obligation to help them with their investigation and hope that this case can end soon as everyone I think has the same wish.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank the police for their hard work on this case. Thank you. I believe everyone’s priority now (and) my priority now is to stop the suffering and pain, for not letting this…we do not want to let this situation become more out of control. We need to protect all the innocents and all the young from matters like this. In this regard, I have instructed my lawyers to do everything possible within the law to protect all the innocents, victims of this case. I believe that a press statement is being issued as we speak on what my lawyers have advised me to do.

Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for coming here today and listening to what I have to say. I would like to also apologize once again to all the ladies and their families, my family and to everyone in Hong Kong and everyone in our society. I am deeply saddened by this. And I apologize to everyone (who) has to go through this. I would like to also thank you for giving me this opportunity to say what I have wanted to say all along in my heart.

I hope, after today, I can have your forgiveness. With regard to this case, with everything, everything that has happened, I am deeply sorry. I hope you all accept my apology and give me a chance.

Thank you.

I just happened to be visiting Hong Kong the past few weeks, when this scandal broke out. Anyone who hasn’t seen the pics were considered “out.” I think Edison’s apology statement came too late, if he had came out sooner, things wouldn’t have turned out as bad.

I never liked Edison in the first place. I think his statement above is hypocritic. He has been planning to come out of the HK entertainment industry for a long while, he has made two Hollywood movies already as second or third class actor, before the scadal. After the scandal, when he was “seeking his soul” in the U.S. he was actually meeting with more Hollywood moviemakers. I guess it’s not such a big deal in a more open-minded market as the U.S. And, people tend to be forgetful.

He never cared about the HK entertaiment industry anyway, as he hasn’t produced much in the last couple years anyway, after he started his own clothing company and recently became one of the youngest CEO.

Well, i never knew about this guy named Edison. All I know about is just about the some of the Ladies just like Twins. What on earth was he thinking before sending the laptop to the IT guy? And this IT guy, was he, his own personal IT fixer or what>? or just a quack fixer? come on, lets face it, boy!!! We are in the age of techno fast lane and even sitting in your home right behind your desktop, you can be hack, then there you go like - bingo - I’m here, take my pc with all the secrets on!!!Well, i ASLO go kinky closer to just take a quick look and i never saw him with like say 2 or more ladies.so WAS LIKE THIS GUY was really a big tyme player huh. Wow, So why should you come out of your shells shedding some hard skinned crocodile tears????? I wonder if he was even a winner as far as i will be concerned. I feel for him anyway, but always a player, always hardcore, so why was he cracking up!!! And i reckon most of the pretty ladies did not know about each other, so now, they can consult themselves.
    Peace

I like him to speak in English so that his international fans would understand what he talk about (I am 1 of them).
It is not fair to blame Edison only. Those women (Gillian, Cecila, Bo Chan and many more… )who slept with him got sympathy from the media and HK people. I already saw all the pictures and did not believe Gillian, Bo Chan, Cecila and other women involved in this S@X scandal would do such S@X things.I felt nausea. I hate those women and feel sorry for Edison. Those promiscuous women got away from the spotlight and are still making movies and doing advertising.Meanwhile Edison has to apolize to the public and disappear from the showbiz.
BEAUTY COMES FROM THE INSIDE OUT.
EDISON DOES NOT HAVE TO APOLIZE TO HIS PARTNERS.

    EDISON IS NOT GUITY

Firstly: he has nothing to be sorry about other than that someone stole the pictures off his laptop. It’s not a crime to take pictures, or to have s@x if it’s all consensual.. Although some people seem to think it is.

As for those idiots saying that “he and the girls should take the consequences”: get back in your uptight, self righteous boxes you f**king hypocrites!

about the speech, as this matter got pretty huge and has involved the authority and law, it will be too hard for a perv. Like him to address to. he definitely needs a pro to write him this speech in order to carefully select the words to be announced to the public so that he would not be held against his words in the future. Its pretty common for celebs or politician when they address the public. Whether he is sincere or not, for now he is just a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar..aww..
For those loyal fans, i mean I don’t hold anything against his ability, a good celeb. i mean d@mn I like gansta music from eminem or grunge from kurt but i don’t sniff nor sl!t my wrist or put a g^n to my head. so stop being naive and just because you’re his fan, don’t condone everything he does.
And I don’t think he will disappear from the screen forever, this thing is temporary, like a f@rt. abrupt and stinks the air for seconds, then it all shall disappear. So chill out.

the whole thing to me is an interesting story with an “proper ending”. i only know this guy via reading his stories in newspaper since last week. it caught my attention cos it happened in my home town where i grow up. unlike hollywood i really dont expect this kind of news originated from there. does he really feel sorry? who cares. at the end of the day he has done what he is expected to do so as to symbolically mark an end to the story. but i guess a lot of lads would feel sad if he really disappears from the screen forever.

edison should apologise and he did, regardless wether the photos were stolen nor circulated by himself, or even with or without his consent for the matter.there is no exception (even akon had to come out a wirte an apolgy song for his misbehaving.) Although the photos is stolen as claimed, privacy is the lamest excuse a person could come out with. privacy is t be honored, but yet, a sin if still a sin, regardless if it is done behind doors or in bright daylight. so should drug abuse be honored as well because it is done behind doors? we have all the rights to judge their character, as we gave them the limelight, look at the other way around, just because he is a celeb, it doesnt mean he deserved to be pitied more than an ordinary person. yes, humans doesnt not run away from making mistakes, but once you’ve done it, YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. i mean, would you let me get away if i slept with your wife and say “oh im sorry, it was supposed to be private?”
stop pitiing him, pity the child lucas, and his borken down family for his stupid act of lust.
one thing, breaking the rules is fun until your’re caught, and when you are, d@mn it sucks, but you got to bite the bullet buddy. you deserve it.

The people who are judging him on his grammar are CLEARLY the ones that cannot read, write or spell English - words and/or sentences.

Honestly, does it really matter who wrote the freakin’ speech, as long as he came out - spoke what he thought, how he felt, and although I don’t believe he should have apologised, he did.

As a celebrity, they deserve their privacy just as much as everyone else. They have families, have mothers, have feelings too - who gives us the right to judge? Just because they’re celebrities and have to face the public more than you or me ever have to, does not give us the right to judge them as a person or character.

Take a look at yourself before judging others - you have probably done things that you don’t want other people knowing too, so give them a break!
