Edison Chen Apologizes and Leaves Hong Kong Entertainment
Edison Chen finally returned to Hong Kong and held a press conference at 3 pm in Kowloon World Trade Centre. Edison apologized in English to the girls involved in the naughty pic scandal surrounding him, and to all of Hong Kong, where the public is outraged. Edison said he will be away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry for an "indefinite period," he said "there is no time frame." This means Edison plans to work in Hollywood in the USA, and will return to Hong Kong entertainment once people move on from this scandal. He said he will do volunteer work while he clears his mind, which means he will be trying to rehabilitate his image with the public. The full statement Edison read is below:
Today I have come back to Hong Kong to stand before you and account for myself. I have never escaped from my responsibility. During the past few weeks, I have been with my mother and my family and my loved ones to show support and care and at the same time to have them support and care for me.
I admit that most of the photos being circulated on the Internet were taken by me. But these photos are very private and have not been shown to people and are never intended to be shown to anyone. These photos were stolen from me illegally and distributed without my consent.
There is no doubt whoever obtained these photos have them uploaded on the Internet with malicious and deliberate intent. This matter has deteriorated to the extent that society as a whole has been affected by this. In this regard, I am deeply saddened. I would like now to apologize to all the people for all the suffering that has been caused and the problems that have arisen from this. I would like to apologize to all the ladies and to all their families for any harm or hurt that they have been feeling. I am sorry. I would like to also apologize to my mother and my father for the pain and suffering I have caused them during the past few weeks. Most importantly, I would like to say sorry to all the people of Hong Kong. I give my apology sincerely to you all, unreservedly and with my heart.
I know young people in Hong Kong look up to many figures in our society. And in this regard, I have failed. I failed as a role model. However, I wish this matter will teach everyone a lesson. To all the young people in our community, let this be a lesson for you all. This is not an example to be set for you.
During my time away, I have made an important decision. I will whole-heartedly fulfill all commitments that I have to date. But after that, I decided to step away from the Hong Kong entertainment industry. I have decided to do this to give myself an opportunity to heal myself and to search my soul. I will dedicate my time to charity and community work within the next few months. I will be away from Hong Kong entertainment industry indefinitely. There is no time frame.
I have been assisting the police since the first day the photos were published and I will continue to assist them. After this press con., I have obligation to help them with their investigation and hope that this case can end soon as everyone I think has the same wish.
I would like to use this opportunity to thank the police for their hard work on this case. Thank you. I believe everyone’s priority now (and) my priority now is to stop the suffering and pain, for not letting this…we do not want to let this situation become more out of control. We need to protect all the innocents and all the young from matters like this. In this regard, I have instructed my lawyers to do everything possible within the law to protect all the innocents, victims of this case. I believe that a press statement is being issued as we speak on what my lawyers have advised me to do.
Lastly, I would like to thank everyone for coming here today and listening to what I have to say. I would like to also apologize once again to all the ladies and their families, my family and to everyone in Hong Kong and everyone in our society. I am deeply saddened by this. And I apologize to everyone (who) has to go through this. I would like to also thank you for giving me this opportunity to say what I have wanted to say all along in my heart.
I hope, after today, I can have your forgiveness. With regard to this case, with everything, everything that has happened, I am deeply sorry. I hope you all accept my apology and give me a chance.

He doesn’t look sorry! Although he may put up a stage and make a speech does that mean he is sorry. How do we know that he is sorry. He’s showing no sincerity, especially when he’s reading for off a sheet of paper what kind of person apologizes reading off a paper. When someone apologizes u dont read off a sheet a paper it all comes from the heart, u should need one. To add another thing, he’s “AN ACTOR” there’s such thing that he’s acting! So obiviously he good at read off a script or piece of paper!
atleast he apologize… poor girls… Terrible society!!
it’s funny how all blame got placed on him, when it takes 2 to do the act. how did the girls get away as the victims when they look like they were enjoying themselves. In my opinion it’s the girls’ fault cause it they don’t put out their image as virginal and all innocent, it’s wouldn’t have blown this big.

FIRST, talk is cheap. If everyone can just apologize and then expect nothing has ever happened, then the world will become a mess. How about personally visiting all the families of those he harmed? That is true sincerity.
SECOND, who cares if he leaves the HK entertainment industry!?? Not like he was ever a big part of it anyway. He made it sound like he was making such a huge sacrifice.
THIRD, why does he think Hollywood will even consider him now? Everyone now knows he’s just trying to sleep with more movie stars.
FOURTH, he will do volunteers work for, what? a few months? Oooh big deal. Maybe if he does volunteer work for the next 10 years, some people will consider forgiving him.
FIFTH, he didn’t look sincere to me at all. Let’s not forget he’s an actor. He tricked all those girls too. He thinks by uttering a bit, and shaking his head around a bit, will fool us. No way. How about some anger, frustration, or some tears??
Those ladies who involved in the S@X scandle should be better off in making b-grade flicks.

Are you kidding? They all knew him WELL more than we did. They all knew that he was a playboy. They slept with him since he is handsome. Those ladies are not naive. They sleep around with any man they like and always thought that the public do not know. They live double lives.
I do not feel sorry for those hypocric ladies who performed a “PIG’ S@x things and act like naive, good girl in the public.
Those ladies live a promiscuos life. They deserve to be blamed too. NOT ONLY EDISON.
He seems better fitted to be a p@rn actor. So are his girl-friends. They are no better than that. Their Chinese fans deserve better.
I think the whole thing is juz sad and an eyeopener as well… Quite surprised at Gillian though shes a grown adult, aint wrong to have s@x or filming it… it just cuz her usual image is so angelic… now that this happened, i really feel sad for all of them, just cuz a malicious act all of them will be affected for life. The only stupid thing that Edison had done was keeping those pix in the computer…n the ladies for letting him film it…

mate, there aint a thing wrong, u have fulfilled mans dream and with it.. ur a legend.. although it is bad in a sense, but thats just wat media does in order to make it an issue..
I just watched the apology and I thought it was pretty lame. For 95% of it, he didn’t seem sincere and sound and look like he’s just reading a script. However, it’s sad that he and Gillian has to apologize or explain in the first place because they didn’t do anything wrong. Edison is as much a victim as the female stars involved. They might be accountable for their public behaviours, (because of they are celebrities) but they are definitely not accountable for their (legal) private behaviours to anyone. Is having s@x with your girlfiends or dates a crime? So he happens to be popular with girls, is that a crime? So he likes to keep pictures of their s@x lives, is that wrong? We have to understand that just because so many girls sleep with him doesn’t make him a bad person. The girls themselves were not forced to sleep with him. Even if Edison is the playboy type who date so many girls, perhaps at the same time, is that really our business? Besides, who is to say that the girls themselves are not also dating more than one person, or I’m sure most of them have had their fair share of boyfriends, no less than Edison.
Remember, Their privacy got invaded because someone stole these pictures and uploaded them for the world to see, and suddenly it became everybody’s business. Let’s not forget that we’re looking at stolen pictures.
In any case, it’s their misfortune that their private lives got stolen and uploaded. Those who stole and uploaded them are ultimately the ones to blame, and the only ones to blame. The power of the media and general human curiousity didn’t help of course. Most of the HK citizens who are complaining are also responsible for driving what has been a non-stop one month front page media coverage of all of this which is making the whole thing worse than it really is every single day.
May be he’s really sorry about this scandal.

okay… so some of you people actually think he was sincerely sorry? i’ve never really liked edison anyway, so i couldnt care less about this stuff. im (in a way) doubting his apologies, although i do agree with some of you that he didnt do anything wrong, that is of course you seem to think that taking pictures during s@x is wrong. as for what he did with the laptop… does that guy have brains? maybe he couldve thought about the pics being uploaded onto the internet before giving his laptop to the IT workers?? wow… how retarded (no offense).
i do think he deserves a second chance, because all people make mistakes, no matter how serious the problem is. he didnt kill, he didnt take life; all he did was take pictures and unintentionally got them onto the internet. its not his fault. even if i dont like him, i think he should be forgiven by society.

I feel sorry for Edison. He shouldn’t apologize to anybody. What happened in his bedroom seem to be consensual between the ladies and him. It’s just too bad it got circulated all over the internet. There’s nothing wrong with what they did in those pictures…
well as far as i know, even if you delete all you pictures into the recycle bin, or even formatted ur hard disk b4 you sent it to repair, there are softwares that can be used to recover all these details.
For eg. if you delete pics using recycle bin, it is just like deleting away the page number of a book. the content is still intact in somewhere inside you harddisk. Likewise for reformatting. I can tell you that i can buy 2nd hard disk from ebay or anywhere and recover important document or passwords from the previous owner.
The only way to solve is to use a hammer and destroy you harddisk. I am not joking. You can make some researches on what i have said.
I think Edison just wants to show off his ‘conquests’ to the world. After all, would you or me send a laptop for repair knowing very well that it contains private n^de pics ? What’s more being a so-called celebrity, the repair men will snoop even harder for pics in his laptop. He is just a young punk who can’t think, and has low intelligence in managing his life matters as far as sending laptop for repair. He could have asked someone trusted to do it, or at least be there while the repair is being done. Dont understand how he became famous & so sought after by the commercials in the first place. Havent seen any of his films, songs or advertisements yet. Never liked Edison or the girls involved anyway !!! Serves you right Edison !!!
hey xso any kid who knows about computers knows that backup is important. So if Edison wants to ’save’ the pics for his own viewing pleasure, he would have done a backup and deleted the ones on his laptop before he sends for repair. Shows that good looks don’t normally come with brains. Such an idiot and a loser, anyway he be better off in hollywood making b-grade flicks
I agree that he didn’t do anything wrong, other than not protecting his private collections. I guess some of these women felt cheated on, because at the times that he took those pictures, he was dating and filming multiple women, and they all thought that they were his only one.
hi tech… thumb drives and hard disks are as risky too… u can drop a thumb drive or have to repair ur hard disk , isnt it the same.
I just happened to be visiting Hong Kong the past few weeks, when this scandal broke out. Anyone who hasn’t seen the pics were considered “out.” I think Edison’s apology statement came too late, if he had came out sooner, things wouldn’t have turned out as bad.
I never liked Edison in the first place. I think his statement above is hypocritic. He has been planning to come out of the HK entertainment industry for a long while, he has made two Hollywood movies already as second or third class actor, before the scadal. After the scandal, when he was “seeking his soul” in the U.S. he was actually meeting with more Hollywood moviemakers. I guess it’s not such a big deal in a more open-minded market as the U.S. And, people tend to be forgetful.
He never cared about the HK entertaiment industry anyway, as he hasn’t produced much in the last couple years anyway, after he started his own clothing company and recently became one of the youngest CEO.
