Dog Duane Chapman Racist Phone Call - Audio
Posted on October 31, 2007 at 4:52 pm (PST)
The National Enquirer got a hold of two taped phone calls between Duane Chapman, aka Dog, and his son. Dog is concerned that his son is dating a black woman named Monique Shinnery. For nearly eight minutes Dog threatens to fire his son Tucker from the family bail bond business if he does not breakup with that “black girl,” Dog did also say on the tape "it’s not because she’s black." What it sounded like Dog was saying is that he doesn’t want a black girl around, because if she heard them say "nigger," which he said they use that word sometimes, the black girl would take it wrong and tell the Enquirer, and the rest of the world would misunderstand how the family used the word, and their careers would be over. Guess what? He may be right. Dog doesn’t sound racist. It sounds like he uses the word "nigger" the same way blacks do, except without the derogatory meaning. Click here, or here, to listen to part of the first tape, which does not have a date as to when it was made.
After hearing about the tape, A&E issued the following statement:
"A&E has just learned of the story released by the National Enquirer concerning Duane Dog Chapman. We take this matter very seriously. Pending an investigation, we have suspended production on the series. When the inquiry is concluded we will take appropriate action."
A&E Suspended Production on Dog the Bounty Hunter, which means Dog might be fired, or at least indefinitely suspended.
Dog asked to have dialog with Rear End Al Sharpton regarding the tapes, and good old Al issued this response:
Reverend Al Sharpton’s National Action Network and the organization’s Decency Initiative are unequivocally against the use of the "N" word in any context. While people have the freedom to express themselves in any matter in private, when those private conversations become public, it becomes our responsibility to state, as we always have, that we condemn the use of this word as racist and derogatory. Dog the Bounty Hunter has reached out to Reverend Sharpton who is traveling to promote his March on the U.S. Justice Department on November 16th against Hate Crimes and Racial Attacks and therefore Rev. Sharpton has not had a chance to hear the audio of the remarks. However, until he does hear the audio, National Action Network maintains that is against the use of the "N" word.
Dog is now referring all phone calls to his Pastor Tim. Pastor Tim Storey, an African-American, said he spoke with Dog, who cried for 30 minutes, saying:
"I’m shocked, I’m wrong I repent. Can you believe, Tim, that I’m going to be put in the same category as Imus."
Pastor Storey, who performed Dog and Beth’s wedding ceremony, went on to say:
"I was shocked, because I don’t know that to be Duane." He went on, "I felt that he had to be accountable to what he said. When I asked him what took place, why he said it, he said that he was angry with his son about many things. The subject of his son’s girlfriend came up, and in his anger he then attacked that relationship and then therefore challenged the girl by saying she wasn’t good enough. What shocked me was that he used the N word. I know he’s not a racist. He’s been to black churches with me to help inner-city kids. I talked to Dog three times today and he apologized, saying he wasn’t angry at the girl, it was anger toward his son."
It’s not that the girl is black, it’s just that she’s not good enough to be with a Dog’s son, and because the word "nigger" has a different meaning for her than it does for Dog’s family. It appears Tucker recorded conversations with his father, and turned those tapes over to the National Enquirer, which is the ultimate betrayal. With holidays just around the corner, Tucker is going to be awfully lonely.
Is the Dog a racist?

As a black american, personally I am seriously confused about the blatant double standards of the black community regarded the use of this word. I have never in my life had a white person refer to me by this term to my face. However I have had several black people use this term around and towards me in reference to other black people.
I don’t like the term regardless of whom is saying it, be they black, white or other. However, to persecute a white person for using the term when people like 50 Cent and Lil’ Jon use the term profusely with impunity is just plain wrong.
From my point of view, if we don’t like being referred to as “n!gg3rs” by others, then we should stop referring to ourselves that way. To continue doing so is hypocritical and demeaning to all black americans. Just my two cents.

I’d never in a million years post in one of these forum-esque like blogs but I just had to say that I’m so glad that an African-American like yourself, G David Lewis, actually came out and called things for what they’re worth. I 100% agree with you; no one should be able to use the N word, regardless of race. The double standard regarding that word is just mind boggling.

I agree with Mr. Lewis (a previous commenter). The use of that word, or any other derogatory term toward any ethinc group, is abhorrent and any person using it should be chastised regardless of their ethnicity.
We as a society though need to realize that there is, and always has been, racism. We cannot control what people think and have limited control on what they may say. The real crime here is the media using this to sell airtime, newspapers, amgazines, etc. In the past irresponsible reporting has insited riots and even swayed court opinions.
I say…. Shut up. Leave the man alone. Stop trying to make trouble.

The word NIGGER does not mean what it once did in todays world. There are lots of words that have changed meaning in the corse of the english language. In no way shape or form is Dog a racist even though I do not personaly care for a person that profits off the misery of others. The word is now just a word , a liric, that has many many meanings even in the tone its spoke can change it. So all of those who cast the first stone need to know what the hell your even taking about. Its a new world today

If Dog is getting all this from saying the N-word, then Edward Norton should be exiled from America for saying it bunches of times in his movie American History X. I mean COME ON….it’s just a WORD! lol

its funny how we can be called crackers and every other name in the book and that’s OK but because of some things that happened many years ago that we had nothing to do with we say one word and we are racists i mean we have black pride days that’s OK but f we had white pride day we would be racists we have black, Latino, and all kinds of other clubs in our schools but white clubs are not aloud so you tell me who the racists are its not are fault what happened all them years ago yes it was a shame but we are different people we should be treated as such and if you look up the meaning of that word it does not say a black person well if people should have anything to say to dog it should be thanks for keeping our streets safe and being the man he his today if we have any thing to say it should have been to ask Beth to cover up her chest a long time ago as far as the rest of it goes i say grow up . thanks Patricia

Well first thing’s first! Dog you hold your head up hire you have done lenothing wrong! You know everyone is missing the point! That your son (I wouldn’t call him that)should be the one that should be canceled out. He deliberatly got you to talk about this conversion, knowing that you would react this way so he could TAPE you and SELL it to the HIGHTEST bidder and so he could rake in the MONEY and try to end your career just out of SPITE. I am so sorry that everyone is condemning the wrong person. Dog has every right to speak how he want,s to his son without thinking he was being TAPE or saying the N word. SO WHAT! don,t go out of the house if that word really bother’s you because you will hear worst than that on the street’s
