Cho Seung-Hui Sent Media Package to NBC

After killing 2 students, Cho Seung-Hui (23) took time to complete a media kit to that he mailed to NBC just before he killed another 30 students, and himself. Virginia Tech is a "Gun Free Zone" which gun control advocates claim will prevent gun related crimes. Now there is debate that perhaps a professor with a gun could have stopped Cho from completing his killing spree.

The media kit included picture stills (below), and many videos of Cho’s hate filled ramblings. Fox News has been playing the videos, and NBC plans to air the videos on their nightly news.

The videos, media kit, and other evidence shows this was planned out over a long period of time. Authorities labeled him as mentally ill and an imminent danger to himself and others. The court approved outpatient mental health treatment, even though hospitalization was recommended. This information was not shared with government authorities that could have used that information to prevent him from legally purchasing the weapons he used in the shootings. A failure to communicate between government agencies prevented gun laws from working as intended.

Virginia Tech administrators could have prevented further bloodshed if they had locked down the entire school after the first shooting, and until they had apprehended the shooter or confirmed the shooter was no longer on campus. Since the lockdown was confined to the building of the first shootings, Cho was able to mail his media kit, and walk across campus to complete his mission of murder. Hopefully hindsight will help schools develop better emergency policies.

One thing we all can do is report suspicious behavior.
