Charice Pempengco Sings Better than Dreamgirls

Share

A 15-year-old Filipina named Charice Pempengco has proven me right once again. Filipinas sing better than black girls in my opinion. Charice performed a Dreamgirls song And I Am Telling You, which won Jennifer Hudson an Oscar, only Charice did it better. I’m certain Pedophiles who roam the Internet will agree, if not just for the fact this is a 14 year-old girl in a skirt. The most touching part is that Charice changed the words – from “You’re the best man I’ve ever known” to “You’re the best MOM I’ve ever known.” Mom must be so proud of her little Diva.

See the after performance interview with Charice, and more singing by clicking the link below. She’s amazing.

Another example of the voice of an Angel is 100% Filipina Lea Salonga. In the video below Lea auditions for Miss Saigon. You might also remember her in Aladdin (1992) singing the voice of Princess Jasmine. It’s true blacks are good singers, but for my musically trained ear, Filipinas have one of the most beautiful voices on the planet. Blacks commenting here should listen to music from around the world before commenting. There are many great voices besides black voices. Take some time to appreciate other cultures outside of your own. I’m not trying to say blacks don’t have good voices, but I am saying Charice has a better voice than Jennifer Hudson. For me it’s the voice as well as the approach to the song. Black girls sing from their soul, but Filipinas sing from their heart. That’s how I see it. Nothing against the talented black girls out there.

Lea’s wedding is below to her husband Robert Chien.

Everybody here should read the statements once again and notice the phrases used like “…in my opinion”, “for my musically trained ear” and “for me”. All of which were meant to express ones own observation and preference based on performance and not on the color of the skin as pointed out earlier by one of the comments which is a matter of personal choice and not in any way meant to demean the black race. And it was plainly explained in the subequent statements to correct any misconceptions. All the author is driving at is for other races to learn to appreciate other peoples cultures and ability and not be so insular or “close minded”. Mimickry is one thing but when you combine it with your own style and interpretation it becomes quite different. Originality is not always perceived to be better it all boils down to your own perception of what quality represents. I guess reading and comprehension nowadays takes more effort than becoming ones’ own personal expert.

I think, Charice sings better than Jennifer Hudson. Well, i am here from indonesia with my own opinion. No racist at all. I am just music lover with true honesty.

In fact, Lakisha Jones from American Idol sang better than Jennifer Hudson, i think. And Charice, is the only Asian who sings and can compare with Lakisha Jones (for Am I Telling You I am not Going).

Or perhaps, by time goes, Charice could be in same position with Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Shania Twain, or Whitney Houston. She is really really Young Diva, maybe a little there and that in her vocal’s improvement, and just a little time, she will be one of World’s Greatest Divas

    Love and Salute To Charice
    From Indonesia
    Dont Give up

Yes,I believe in one statement here that great talents do not isolate themselves in one race.

But comments here who says the article above is racist is a bit close-minded.

We learned in history that racists in the past do not discriminate one race BY PERFORMANCE, BUT BY PHYSICAL APPEARANCE itself, peculiarity from the common.

Like for example, before the whites do not discriminate the blacks in their way of singing, nor how they do things? But they discriminate because they were diffirent from them.

Now, my point is, the author in the above article compared and contrasted FILIPINO SINGERS AND AMERICAN-AFRICAN SINGERS by their way of singing.
He judged by their singing and not by their skin, race or culture, or where they came from, right?

  4. Andrea says:

Both Charice and Lea sound beautifull. I am sure that persons with beautifull voices are represented in every race. We do not have to descide that one race can sing better than another or that any one race wants to make that claim. Yes black people have great voices but who said think they are the only ones who can sing? We don’t need to go there. Let’s move on.

  5. Paulo says:

I can’t believe that black people feel they OWN music. Well guess what…YOU DON’T.

  6. Mo says:

She is amazing…but Hudson was obviously better. Listen to BOTH performances back to back. Maybe Charice will be better when she is older, but right now you would have to be biased or partially deaf not to hear that Hudson is more powerful at this point.

  7. YES, SHE SANG IT BETTER THAN HUDSON. BUT MISS HUNEY CAN’T HOLD A FLICKER TO THE ORIGINAL – MISS JENNIFER HOLLIDAY! *TWO SNAPS UP, TWO SNAPS DOWN* AOWWW! BUT SHE WAS CUTE!

  8. GInger says:

Stormy, you sound like a very young person who, tragically, has already learned to jump on the bandwagon and spew forth hatred about an entire race of people. Please, for your own sake, take a step back and realize your contribution to the perpetuation of senseless world hatred. Young people will read your venomous comment and be influenced by it, resulting in good, innocent people being maligned around the world for generations. Give peace a chance.

  9. GeNo says:

i’m a filipino and i do not appreciate these racist comments against ‘black’ people (or against any other race for that matter). i do believe that charice pempengco is a great singer. i’ve watched her since the ‘little big star’ days and had hoped for her to win (unfortunately she only got to 3rd). but i also understand that there are a lot of exceptional singers out there from ‘black’ to ‘white’ people. talent doesn’t isolate itself in one country or one group of people; it can be found anywhere. i find it hard to believe that people would actually argue about this when i can’t see a real reason as to why they should. jennifer hudson is jennifer hudson. charice is charice. they have their own share of talent. let’s just appreciate those talents peacefully and voice out opinions in a polite manner, without having to curse or slander entire races.

  10. MJ says:

this is horrible! why are you people attacking blacks just because one little filipino girl sang a song well! this is a very racist attack. if you want to praise Charice then praise her , but dont INSULT black people in the process! ‘pride and boastful attitudes?’ you people sound like horrible racists!

  11. Ronie says:

Guys, guys let’s stope argueing…Charice is a great singer period.

  12. oxo says:

i beg to disagree, demi, black has the edge over filipinos in terms of media mileage, thats why they get the spots more easily,ok to tell you some of the greatest in phils, try to look for regine velasquez, lani misalucha, kyla, rachelle ann go,frenchie dy,lea salonga, banig, sheryn regis to name a few. and pls you should have encountered the phrase”hidden treasures”also try to key in pinoy pop superstar or pinoy pop kids in youtube,im not saying black are not good, they are great, but pls dont be so selfish that you only want to be on the spot ALWAYS.you can share.

  13. oxo says:

well i think that filipinos are better than black cause they are diversified, ive heard filipinos sweet, operatic, mellow, black, and just everything. they are not stucked to only one texture, which black is,when you hear a black you would always know their black, unlike filipinos, their voice can sound husky as michael bolton,as soft and smooth as angels, theatrical, operatic,as black as whitney and everything, but i love black voice too, very much.but i think we shud take into account also that many filipinos have won over blacks several times in many competitions.they just love singing.but peace out, whether your black or filipinos, both have outstanding talents.

  14. DEMI says:

    The issue here is:

This person that created this article stated that “she’s better than any black singer.”

What blacks are saying is “NO SHE ISN”T”…it has nothing to do with blacks being better, blacks inventing soul, blacks thinking they are all that.

The issue is…she’s NOT better than any Black Female singer Period.

Talented and influenced by blacks… yes.

If she never seen Dreamgirls, she wouldn’t have realized what she was able to do what she is able to do. Maybe if she saw GREASE… she would sound like Olivia Newton John and WHITE so we wouldn’t be checking in on this blog once in awhile to see all the drama…who knows.

  15. Bruce says:

Hard to generalize. I always thought blacks sang better than whites till I heard Pavarotti sing. I always thought only Filipinos could sing from Asia till I heard Jacky Cheung. But yeah, Charice in her live performance of “I Will Always Love You” (search YouTube) even outdid Whitney’s studio-perfected performance of the same song. Don’t even tell me about white-gown-clad Whitney’s live Grammy performance of that song cuz she didn’t hit the high notes as she did in the CD recording of the “Bodyguard” soundtrack.

  16. sabongmanok says:

charice pempengco is not gonna make it musically in the usa like what happened to banig, the pinay singer who won and indirectly beat christina aguilera in the junior category of CBS’s star search in the 1980’s. it’s all about marketability that’s why talented asian singers, sadly, are not accepted in america. ironically in asia, americans singers whether black or white are being idolized. here’s banig on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/v/sPL6JEYBs_0

  17. Lee says:

LOL, these comments are hysterical. Filipinas excited that one of their own sounds black, blacks annoyed that yet again, another race comes along and says that THEY invented soul. LOL, I’m japanese, and I know back home it’s cool to double dutch, dance and sing black, so don’t be annoyed black friends. Imitation is the best form of flattery. LOL, too funny.

  18. tj says:

Yes I agree, CHarice is really talented eversince I say her on TV. And Lea is wonderful. She can really sing and Her husganda last name is Chen.

  19. Kristin says:

i am pure filipino and i love singing. i love singing more than anything in the world. its a great way to express yourself.
i love singing in school, but only to my friends. if people ask me what i want to be when i grow up, i would usually say “a singer!” but they would just laugh and go “..you cant sing!”
im quiet in school and when i sing for other people, they usually go “youre the least expected person i know to have a good singing voice”.
im proud of charice because she represents all filipinos.
looks can be deceiving. really. you never know wat everyone can do until they show it.

  20. mallorie says:

i know my last comment might seem to be leaning towards my own race, and it sounds kinda mean, sorry, but i’m just saying that talent doesn’t depend on a race. just because i’m filipina, it doesn’t make me a good singer. and same goes for any other race. it just hurts, when someone is dissing my own nationality. i’m sure you black people are feeling the same way, so everyone just tone down on the pride, and don’t try and bring down the others
