Brandy Unfairly Targeted Says Civil Rights Group

Black civil rights leaders in Los Angeles claim the California Highway Patrol has made singer/actress Brandy "a political trophy."

The Los Angeles City Attorney is deciding whether to file misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter charges against Brandy, whose Land Rover slammed into a Toyota on the 405 Freeway killing the driver.

Today, Najee Ali, leader of Project Islamic HOPE, said the CHP’s recommendation to file charges against the singer "is unfairly targeting her for prosecution because of her celebrity." Ali told TMZ he is organizing an e-mail campaign in the African American community to put pressure on City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo to reject the case.

Delgadillo says "We will treat this case like every other case and treat it very seriously because someone died."

If it’s not a Black group, it’s a gay group, or a women’s group. The reason for the trouble is always some sort of discrimination, not that person’s actions. Today the way to get out of trouble is to cry fowl and not take responsibility. It’s always some white straight male’s fault, right? Someone died, a child lost a mother, a husband lost a wife, parents lost a daughter. The victim doesn’t matter, and isn’t even a person to groups like this Black Civil Rights group. The only thing that matters is that someone is going to make "one of us" responsible for our actions. There was a day when not taking responsibility made a person feel embarrassed, but today is not that day.

From what I know, Brandy is doing her best to take responsibility, but of course, no one wants to go to jail. The California Highway Patrol did the right thing, and I’m sure Delgadillo will too.

The only group that should be trying to protect her is the I’m Too Busy Talking On My Damn Cell Phone To Care About Driving Safely group.
