Bernie Mac (50), aka Bernard McCullough, died this morning in Chicago at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after a week long hospitalization from pneumonia. Bernie’s rep issued the following statement:

"Actor and comedian Bernie Mac passed away this morning from complications due to pneumonia in a Chicago area hospital. No other details are available at this time. We ask that his family’s privacy continues to be respected."

The rep had said Bernie’s pneumonia was not related to his sarcoidosis, an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in organs such as the lungs or lymph nodes, and had the rep had disputed rumors that Bernie was in critical condition.

Mac is survived by his wife Rhonda McCullough, their daughter, Je’Niece, a son-in-law, and a granddaughter, Jasmine.

Mac was a one of a kind, and he will be missed a lot. This is a sad day. Click here to read a little more about his life and career.
